NO
Whatever you do, DON'T DEFAULT ON A STUDENT LOAN! This can wreck your credit. It can also effect future credit. just don't do it, if it is at all possible.
work with the lenders, they would rather change the loan agreements to smaller payments over a longer period of time and still get their money than for you to default.
If you are returning to school, you may be able to apply for loan deferment and get your loans deferred until after you get out of school (assuming you will be returning full time).

You can possibly get a private student loan but you can NOT get any federal aid until the loan is paid in full.

You have to make 6 consecutive monthly payments. If you pay the loan to zero balance, there is a 6 months waiting period.
Good Luck.
P.S. Make arrangements to lower your monthly payments if you can not afford the payment you currently have right now.
