Well, i'm getting ready to gradute from a two year college with an associates degree but I want to go back to a four year college for something different. Only problem... I was a "single" mother the whole time I was going to my two year school, so I had it all paid for pretty much.. well I recently just got married and he makes good money so I know I won't be recieving any money this second time around. I can't take out any personal loans because my credit is poor.... anyone have any advice for me?? Thanks!

Talk to a financial advisor at the university. Sometimes you can still get educational loans even with bad credit.

You could also try just taking 1 or 2 courses at a time. You can pay for that and even though you are not going full time you will still be progressing.

When I first got married I had to cut back from full time. But I still took 7 credits, so I felt like I was still getting somewhere.

I'm glad you understand that you can't get a "need based" loan if your spouse is earning a big paycheck. Financial aid is for people who dont have any money! As you know, how fair would it be to give it to you, if you are doing well when somewhere out there is a single mother - if you get the scholarship then she won't be able to go to school! But, I don't understand why, If your husband is doing well, you shouldn't be able to get a loan based on his credit.

Otherwise, you need to fix your credit so that you can get a loan on your own. That will take you about a year or two of paying all your bills on time, reducing and closing credit accounts and credit cards, paying off loans, etc. THen you can start on a healthy financial basis.

yes, i know people that went through a similar situation .(in the sense that they were broke) a friend of mine went to community college got financial aid to pay pretty much everything. after that he went to a good state university , which is dirt cheap compared to private colleges . he had done well at the 2 year college so he got a little bit of a scholarship and then went to the financial office of the college and asked for some help even though he diddnt qualify for state or federal help, and he ended up getting a second scholarship based on financial need. so at the end, he ended up paying next to nothing for 4 yrs of college. there is alot scholarships and financial aid out there , just have to be assertive and ask for it.

my advice, once your at the 4 yr college, keep your grades up and you may be able to qualify for partial or even full scholarships. it , litterrally, pays to do well in school.
good luck.

You can probably get a private loan if you husband co-signs for you. One provider - Think Financial - indicates you cannot be turned down for any reason as long as you have a qualified co-signer. So, that means your credit won't prevent you from getting a loan if you can get your husband to cosign.

spend a year getting your credit repaired, then go back and get personal loans for school. also try scholarships... www.fastweb.com

this website takes FOREVER to fill out, but once it is filled out, it custom-tailors the scholarships to fit your interests and experiences.
