My son will need braces for 1 year according to orthodontist. We will be moving to a small island in the Atlantic Ocean that has very limited dental services. My son will have had the braces on for about 7 months when we move there. There is an orthodontist that comes to the island 3 to 4 times a year to do follow up work for people that have any orthodontic work. How often will my son need to see the orthodontist while the braces are on? Will ot be ok for him to see the orthodontist once or twice during the last 5 months of his year?

It sounds like you don't have much choice. The worst case is that his treatment time is extended because he can only have things adjusted 3-4 times a year instead of once a month. It might be possible to step up his visits fromevery 4 weeks to every 3 weeks. Discuss this with the orthodontist as soon as possible.

You are supposed to see an orthodontist every month while the braces are on. It might be difficult to go for long periods of time without seeing an orthodontist. If a bracket breaks or comes loose, it could be painful and mess up the progress.
If you take them off too soon, it's like you never put them on in the first place.

The braces cannot come off early because the teeth will not stay in position very well. I am not exactly sure how often he would need to see an orth. but why dont you just call ur dentist and ask. Becuase no one here knows yours sons teeth or his dental records.

I see my orthodontist every two months, I also had my braces on for a little over a year, but when I first got them I had my app. every month.

You know I really think you need to discuss this with your sons orthodontist..or another one....I'd hate to see your son to have wasted all that time(and money) with braces and not have them to work.

Most likely they will come off later than they are supposed to even if teeth are taken care of really well. No matter how much you take care of them that doesnt help them go back to the place where they should be, especially if they have an over or under bite.

If his teeth are where they need to be, then yes, they can take them off. My son just got his off, and hes had them on for 6 yrs. I wouldnt let them take them off till I was happy. His teeth couldnt move anymore, so I agreed to have them off.
If he'll wear his retainer for the next 5 yrs or more, theyll stay looking great.

Work with the limited service.
I took mine off 6 months after they've been on for a year and they're back on now!
