I have to make a choice. Either I end getting the shot now and be ready to have children when I am 32 or wait and have my first child when I am 40.
I just turned 30, am single, and my GYN is concerned about my fertility. I've been on Depo for 6 years due to severe cramping. The doctor told me that it could take up to 3 years after stopping the shot to conceive. She told me she wants me to be ready when I find Mr. Right...and not have to wait. (I've wanted to have a baby since I was 15, just wanted to be married first - but I have no problem being a single parent. )
Just looking for someone to help me with this big decision!

I started on the Pill when I was 14, I passed out because of my cramps. After 6 different prescriptions, I asked to be put on Depo - the Pills did not work at that time. Maybe they will now, since I have a different doctor.
As for my bone density, I had a bone scan done last year and the doc said it was excellent.

I took one round of Depo-Provera, and it took nearly 2 years for us to conceive. Plus I could get my cycle to re-regulate itself, it was completely wacky after going off the shot. Definitely be prepared to take time to get regulated again so you can properly chart your fertility.

What about switching to the pill instead? I took Ortho-Cyclen for four years nonstop, and then the month I stopped taking them I got pregnant.
Or if you want something more permanent, what about an IUD? They can last for up to seven years (depending on brand), and they don't effect your ovaries or egg production/release. You can remove it and immediately be just as fertile as you were before hand, provided you don't have any side effects from it.
Or even condoms? Soooo inconvenient, and I'm a hypocrite on this one because I always tell myself I'll use them, and then don't, and have to take the 'ol Plan B route...
It's a big decision. I wouldn't get the Depo shot again if I were you, because being on it that long can affect your bone density. Is your GYN concerned about that? Have you had your bone density tested? Ask her about it.
Good luck...

I was on the depo shot for 3 years and when i stopped taking it --it took me a year to become pregnant....
If you want to have a baby then have one but if you are not with Mr. right then you will need to see if it is okay by him for you to become pregnant by him... (that is only fair)
You still yet have a while to find him and to become pregnant...My mom had my brother when she was 38 and some women now aren't having babies until they are in their mid 40's..
Go to http://www.mymonthlycycles.com and put in your period info and it will calculate when you will be fertile and ovulating. (For when you will be trying)
Once Depo Provera is stopped, it takes an average of four to ten months from the last shot before you can become pregnant. By the end of two years from your last shot of Depo Provera, your possibility of getting pregnant becomes the same as those women who have never taken Depo Provera as a means for contraception. You should keep this in mind if you plan to have more kids in the future.

well i was on Depo for 3 years the clinic told to me to consider trying a different birth control due to bone density loss with the depo so i started the pill, it took 4 months and i discovered i was pregnant for one i hadn't had a cycle in the 3 years i was on the shot then i had to wait to see a cycle before beginning the pill and that tell you how long it took for me to get pregnant.

I was on it for 2 years. I got off of it and and was pregnant a year later. With a healthy baby boy. But because of that shot i didn't now i was pregnant till i was 4 months pregnant. Becuse when u r on the shot u don't have your period. After i got off i started right away, the doctor told me there maybe times i won't have my period until all of it is out of my system.
