On a scale of 1 to 10, how cool is it to drive around with loud music blaring from your car?

2. I see a lot of kids spending $3000 or more on a stereo but don't pay the extra $300 for sound deadening materials. The bad thing is they think it sounds good at that volume. Mine can get as loud as theirs but I did my system right, you cant hear it from outside unless I open the windows.

I would have to say a 1. I have never looked at a blaring car and said "WOW - that guy is cool" as a matter of fact, I think just the opposite. "WOW - that guy has to call attention to himself". WHY? as a music lover and a musician, volume does not make the music sound any better. Listening to it at a moderate volume, will allow you to enjoy all the rich tones. Ask yourself this. when you see a loud car coming down the road, are you impressed. I'm not.

id have to agree with the guy that talked about the kids buyin 3000 dollar systems. its cool to listen to it loud if you do it right and put dynomat in your car so other people cant hear it unless your windows are down. the only time its good for other people to hear it are on 2 occassions. 1. if they blaring it so loud and it sounds horrible so you shut them up by going louder and it sounding better and 2. during a sound competition where everyone there shares the same enthusiasm about cars as the other

Erm, if the scale is one equalling uncool and ten cool, then its like a minus ten. It infuriates me when a car goes past and makes my door and windows shake with its booming. Why limiters haven't been put on car stereos I'll never know when you're not supposed to talk on the phone. Surely not being able to hear anything affects concentration at least as much? Besides, all these kids go by with their boom-boom and all you can hear behind it is the hum of their woofer which has blown because they've had the music too loud.

WOW I love the answers here, MK is the one thats got it right, your not really supposed to hear it outside the car thats what the dynamat's for, BUT most people will always buy the system before the dynamat(me included) that stuffs expensive its 250 dollars just for one layer for the whole car and thats just for the dynamat, you still have to get someone to gut your car and put it in then put your interior back together. So I see why its not so common to be the first thing on someones mind, It is embarrassing to get out of the car and instead of music all you hear is your car rattling(not embarrassing enough for me to turn it down though).

I also love how everyone says "How are you supposed to hear a Emergency vechile???" HEARING IT DOES NOTHING IF YOU DONT SEE IT, how many times have you been driving or just heard one coming and you say "oh its coming from in front of me" and the thing is behind you or to the left or right of the intersection??? The sound bounces off of buildings like crazy and is hard to tell until there is a direct line between you and the siren. If your checking your mirrors every 2 to 3 seconds you would see the thing coming anyway, "well what about at intersections???" even if your lights green its still safe to look both ways anyway. How do you know that a robber isn't 4 minutes ahead of the cops and the sirens are too far away to hear but hes still doing 80 when he blows the red light. If your dumb enough to rely on just your hearing to keep you out of the way of emergency response vechile Im sure you will get hit by one in your lifetime.

Oh and dont act like its just us that cant hear, most stock radio systems are loud enough to drown out a siren untill its right up your as* and too late to move without raising the risk of getting hit. Your daugthers probably out right now leaving the club toasted with her stock radio blasting so loud she cant hear her friend sitting next to her, so thats just a cheap cop-out that you use to argue against people having systems in their cars

If you've turned your music up because you love the song and you're singing your heart out along to it then it's cool because it's making you happy.
However...
If you've wound down the windows and have your sub up full volume and are nodding your head to some rubbish hip hop while you eye up the girl in the next car at traffic lights, you are not cool.
Not at all!
And yes you will pull away faster than her - because she doesn't give two hoots for your stupid thuggish behaviour. So there! (Can you tell this has happened to me a million times?!)

I only have mine blaring when driving on motorways. If im at traffic lights or in traffic I turn it down, otherwise I won't hear the emergency sirens.
