Psychiatrists are human beings like everyone else and are vulnerable to the same mental illnesses as the patients they treat. However, this does NOT mean they are "catching" the disorders from their patients; rather, that they --- the psychiatrists --- would have had these same illnesses whether they became doctors or bus drivers or newscasters or baseball players. The "seed" of the mental illness is planted in the brain long before birth by genetics, and the environment may or may not play a role in the subsequent appearance and/or progression of the mental illness, but it it is not necessarily the initial or even primary cause of it (with possible exceptions like childhood abuse or wartime trauma).

No not necessarily. Most all health professionals are queered each year on license renewal as to health status including mental health status. Some may have had a family member that suffered mental problems and have chosen a career to help others with what they have observed and or experienced through their lives. But to have tendencies and continue to practice untreated or self treating is unethical and could jeopardizes ones license.

i believe they can for the fact that since the patient privacy law prevents them from talking to others about the patience i can see how over a period of time it could drive somebody to the edge by hearing some pretty crazy things throughout the day....besides the only difference between ashrink and anybody else is a piece of paper

Yeah. The psychiatrist of the mother of my friend died of an over doze caused by same anti-depresants she prescribed for her clients.\
And everytime the mom of my friend went to her sections, the doctor talked about her personal problems instead of listening to her.

yes, there is an old belief that anyone who chooses a helping profession can tend to be dysthymic ( a low grade chronic depression) and that people who "pick helping professions-like doctors, nuses social workers, psychiatrists, pick them because "helping people" helps them feel better in general and helps to feel better about themselve.
