Well it looks like we might have found the site for our May 2008 wedding ceremony and reception. It's called Parkway by the Lake and they offer an outside ceremony under a tent and a reception inside. The price would be $60 a person, but that includes:

5 hours open bar
champagne or wine toast for all
hot and cold hors d'oeuvres
fresh jumbo shrimp
sitdown dinner (entree, salad, potatoe, and vegetable)
wedding cake of our choice
dessert table
chocolate fountain
outdoor wedding ceremony under a tent.
chair covers and colored sashes at the tables

It also includes:

China, linens, glassware, cake cutting, premium liquor, skirted head, gift and cake table, setting up and taking down, bartender, and no extra charge for either the reception hall or the outside ceremony site.

It includes everything that we wanted and at a pretty good price.

Both my fiancee and myself made the decision about looking at this place not just myself. She is the one who is planning the wedding, but she does want me involved with some of the planning which I'm cool with. I was only asking to see if we were getting a good deal because this is all new to us.

She has a friend that is a DJ, so were thinking that we could probably save some money by having him do the DJing for us.

Sounds like a fantastic deal! I'd get references before I pay a deposit though, sometimes those deals that sound almost too good to be true, are too good to be true. Make sure this is a reputable place, but it looks great! Congrats and good luck!

Just a note about May for weddings....it's also high school and college graduation time. You'll want to have the wedding in the first weekend of the month. 2nd weekend is mother's day, and after that you'll be dealing with graduations.

I work in the wedding planning business and this seems like a great deal to me. Around here you would expect to pay $80-$90 a person for what they are including in the package, so if I was you two I would take a look at that place as soon as you can and book it.

Good luck to both of you

First of all congrats on the wedding and it's never to early to start planning so it's nice to see that you guys are looking at stuff now. It's really cool to see the guy actually want to get involved for once, because with the couples I have worked with, it's usually just the women who does the whole thing, so good for you.

Good Luck

Sounds like a great deal. Chocolate fountains are a big hit now, just make sure the chair covers and colored sashes will match your wedding colors. Sounds like a perfect night get some balloons and strings of lights and its set. GOOD LUCK.

It is perfect.I noticed the table with pics on display.Have you thought of something unique for this? My son got married recently and they put a few things from my display at the rehearsal dinner to share with the wedding guests.Since they were engaged on a hot air balloon,I had a few of the pictures blown up and set on displays,I had ordered two cute balloon bears(and made them into a bride and groom),also was a small sculpture(chapel with unique bride and groom hot air balloon overhead). Then, they added a picture of the couple for all to sign.Wait till you hear this,a framed letter from president and first lady giving their best wishes, was in this arrangement.(we sent an invitation. You should try and invite Oprah,is she still wedding crashing?Lots of Luck to you and yours.

Definitely looks like a nice place and they have a decent variety of menu options. The pictures looked great and their list of recommended vendors is good.

One piece of advice I have for you. Make sure every little detail is spelled out in your contract. It may sound silly now but at the end of this, you will love that there is tons of detail because it avoids confusion.

sounds great to me!

instead of a d.j. you could rent speakers and a mike and burn like 5 cds of music and get a 5 disc changer to hook up to it. and ask a friend to keep an eye on it?

you can also burn a cd for the ceremony too. . .

anyway --best of luck to you!
