It would probably be best to take him to the vet. When he licks, does it just seem like normal licking, or is it like he can't stop? My dog (a Boston Terrier) licks everything also, but my whole family thinks the does it just because she likes the feeling on her tongue. Maybe it's the same for your dog...?

My dog did that for awhile while on a medication - licked the floor the couch, toys, his feet, the cat. Turns out the medication was making him sick, according to the vet. When we switched him to another med, the licking stopped. So maybe something your dog eats or takes is not agreeing with him?
Best of luck.

First, it may be anxiety. Try a product called, Bach's Rescue Remedy. It is completely safe and works quite well. You can get it at stores like, Whole Foods, Vitamin Shoppe, and most Health Food Stores. Just put a drop or two into his water or food each day. Also, you can get a toy called a Kong toy. It is a large rubber toy with a hole in it. You can fill it with peanut butter to keep him busy, and to redirect his licking into more normal behavior. Last, but not least, change his food to a quality food. He may be trying to get nutrients he could be lacking. A good food is not something you can get at the grocery store. A quality pet store that sells brands like Solid Gold, Innova, Chicken Soup for the Soul (no kidding), Wellness, etc. They are more expensive but quite worth the price.
Hope his licking problem is 'licked' soon. (I just did not want to resist this pun). Seriously, Good Luck.

This is a problem that many Golden Retrievers develop as they get older. It can be a real health problem for your dog.
Google or Yahoo:
Acral Lick Granuloma
You should also take your dog to the vet.
Good luck with your Golden.

my dog does that too she is a golden as well. idk why they do that she doesnt do it as much but shell lick socks, pant legs, floors, couches, toys, hands, faces, etc. if he is obsessively licking i might take him to the vet just to be sure if ur that worried. youd only spend about 30 bucks and itd be worth it to know ur dog is ok or find out what u need to do to make him stop.

If it licks bed sheets, couches, and other cloth material it is probably sick.
