If you got the car from someone other than the registered owner, you have no proof that the person you got the vehicle from has any ownership rights. It is possible that the bill of sale was forged, and the car was stolen. In any case, you should never get a vehicle (other than from a legal licensed dealer) that is not titled in the name of the seller!!!

YOU have the title. If you can go to RMV and get a new title in your name, you are all set on this. Maybe the previous owner has to sign it and/or bill of sale, etc. If they say it was stolen, you say no it wasn't. I guess they COULD take it back till you get the bill of sale or signature on the title

NOT IF THE NAME ON THE TITLE MATCHES THE NAME ON THE BILL OF SALE.

ANOTHER APPROACH MIGHT BE TO JUST TAKE THE TITLE WITH YOU AND TELL WHO EVER YOU TALK TO THE CAR WAS GIVEN TO YOU AND SEE WHAT THEY ASK FOR.

they could. I suggest you transfer it to your name as soon as possible to avoid any inconvenience or problems in the future.
