I am traveling to Australia in the following week, and I need to know what the exchange rate is.
Is it good?
For any of you that live in Australia, how are the prices of goods, like clothes, food, etc.? Would you say expensive, could be cheaper, or pretty affordable?
Thanks in advance!

prices of goods are relative cheap compared to America. You can get a good meal at the food court for AUD$5-8, and if you plan to cook your meals you can even save up more. clothes: well, depends on the shop. i used to shop at supre, valley girl, and sportsgirl--they've all got fab fashion at affordable prices. public transport is not expensive... back in 2001 i lived in adelaide and i think with $10 and a student card you get a 10-ride bus ticket valid for all over adelaide. a movie ticket would cost around $10. a major label CD album would cost between $20-29, and singles cost between $4-6.

i definitely recommend australia as a country to live: it's safe, it's clean (very enviro aware), it's a beautiful country, and the people are simply awesome. living costs are definitely lower than US. some of my european friends cringe when they see the high tuition fees for school in australia, but from my experience, what you lose in tuition fees you more than make up for in the low living costs.

Check out xe.com for current exchange rates.

Here's a secret. Use your ATM card to access cash while in Australia. THey are common everywhere and you should be able to get a better rate than if you exchange money at a bank or exchange kiosk.

75 cents to dollar. Clothes that are nice are expensive...Cheap clothes are CHEAP (not great quality) here. Fruit is a bit expensive, right now bananas are very expensive due to last hurricane season. Petrol is higher than in US, but it's higher everywhere than US. OTherwise, alot of things seem around same price for what you are getting. Are you moving here or just here short term?
