I once heard an entire church in Africa was filled with people who had been saved by tracts, but don't see that in the US.

No, but if you mean they read the bible tract and wanted to learn more, and they went and got a bible and read more and then got saved, then Yes.

If it is a good tract then yes, George Whitfield, a famous preacher in the late 1700's ways saved by a gospel tract.

A student at Jacksonville University in Florida was given a tract. The student crumpled the pamphlet up and tossed it into a trash bin in his dorm. Later, his dorm mate picked it out of the trash, read it, and was soundly saved. He is now a pastor of a church in Florida.

Why should a Christian use tracts? Simply because God uses them. He used a tract to save the great missionary Hudson Taylor, as well as innumerable others. That fact alone should be enough incentive for a Christ to always use tracts to reach the lost.

I agree with Southern Apostolic's reponse.
The bible clearly states how one should be saved.
The problem is that people take a scripture here or there out of context.

Most tracts will tell you to say a prayer at the end.
Praying Jesus into your heart is never once mentioned in the scriptures.

Some may use a reference to revelation 3 where Jesus says he knocks and we should welcome him in, but that is written to people who are already saved. It is not an instruction for salvation.

One also has to be careful not to pick and choose when it comes to the scriptures. The bible is not a cafeteria. If you want a good study on how to be saved check out the following scriptures. If you apply all of them(not one or two) you get a clear picture

Faith, repentence, commitment, baptism

John 3:1-8
Acts 2:38
Acts 8:26-40
Acts 16:26-40
Acts 22:12-16
Rom 6:1-8
Gal 3:26-27
Col 2:8-14
1Pet 3:18-22(note baptism is not called a symbol, but water. Some will try to twist this vs and say baptism is a symbol, but that is not what it really says)

God bless...

We have so much freedom and so many resources that we are spoiled rotten. We rot because we do use the information entrusted to us by GOD. Tracts are wonderful ways to "preach" Literaly the Bibles tells us to spread the Gospel by means of announcing it like a town crier. The saving was done by GOD drawing the person to himself through Christ finished work on the cross. We the flock of GOD are supposed to be the evangelical people. The pastors are supposed to be equipping us to do that. So I dint know anyone who said they were saved by a tract but I do know that tracts are very Biblical.

GOD bless ya

The bible says that faith comes by hearing and hearing of the word of God.
Also that God's word(KJ bible) mind you, does not go void.
So....any method of communicating the gospel of Jesus Christ can be a means in which a person can recieve 4giveness of sins through the Trinity etc.
If the bible tracts are in fact "biblical" than a person can know how to be 4given and live for Jesus also. This is a starting block at the least, and maybe the most certain people will be given in their lives. We here in the U.S. are soo overwhelmed with blessings that we take Gods word for granted.
So, do I know anyone that has been saved through tracts?
I would say yes. Infact, when we get to heaven Lord willing, it is there alone that we will see the fruit of our labor in the Lord.
*by the way, the theif on the cross WAS NOT BAPTIZED.
and yet Jesus HIMSELF declared he will be with him in heaven. =) Praise God for his mercy AND NOT RELIGION.

Chic tracts are very unchristian and many of them are mean-spirited. I don't know about other tracts, but chick tracts are unbiblical and will lead no one to Christ. Those tracts are just devoid of the love and mercy God, and no Christian would ever even consider using them. Other tracts may be OK.

No,but I was saved by listening to the car radio.I heard a guy talking about the rosetta stone and the Great Pyramids and stuff, and I kept tuning back and tuning back day after day,and hearing about cool archeology and finally about Jesus and stuff, and after a summer I was ready to give my life to the lord jesus and that man was the late great Dr. Gene Scott.

I like the Chic tracts. If anyone were inclined to be a Christian, those would certainly scare them off.

To be saved, you have to repent, be baptized in Jesus' Name, and be filled with the Holy Ghost. It takes a preacher

1Co 1:21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

Believeing by itself just ain't enough. That is what the bible says.

You have to be baptized, and you need someone to do that.

Mar 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
