This question might not be for you.

There is a fellow human sitting behind the computer that presented this question to you desperately wanting to understand his fellow brothers and sisters in humanity.

Please do not say that it brings you closer to god or such. That does not help me.

Please explain what it means to you in your everyday life and philosophy towards your actions.
Please do not thumbs down an answer if it is too long, let us rate the ones who give detail of their views regardless of faith.

Please elaborate. I will in my best efforts project my thoughts into your words and for a few moments see the world the way you see it.
Well, if you are up to it, this is an oppurtunity to be open and know someone is listening. I cannot cut you off mid-sentence here. Not like the rest of the world.
I want to understand you.

What Does Wisdom Mean

2016-09-28 14:17:03 · answer #2 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

I think wisdom is an ongoing quest to understand. In otherwords you gain wisdom little by little as you live life and realize what you are supposed to be learning from each trial. If you learn something from a mistake then you have gained wisdom. If you continue to make the same mistake then you have gained nothing from the challenge God has presented you with. From Birth we strive to figure out why we are here and where we came from, if there is a God, why would he allow bad things to happen, etc. Wisdom is when you finally learn that you are not given to know all the secrets of the universe, or God, or His plan for humanity. It is when you realize that you have your own path and your own job to do here and start focusing on that that you gain Wisdom. Faith in God and understanding that his plan for you is what you are to be doing is the essence of wisdom.

Sorry for this pathetic attempt at an answer to this eternal question, but: only those who are wise know the true meaning of wisdom, and even so, they cannot express it in words; it is more a knowledge of the soul, immaterial in nature.

For a literary account of how one might achieve wisdom, I highly suggest reading SIDDHARTHA by Herman Hesse.

It is knowledge, mostly obtained from real life experiences and observations. Some one who has studied or experienced the human condition is said to be wise. It can be some one who has seen, and experienced the worst of life, and survived, with their pyche intact.. Someone who has learned from the mistakes of others, and vows not to repeat them, is wise.
We have talked here about someone who has an old soul, some one who has knowledge and experience far beyond what is normally found in a younger person.
I work in the medical profession, and I have learned some simple things, that pass as wisdom. I see what poor choices can do to a person, and vow not to go there. I do not drink, and if I did, I would not drive. I keep my eyes on the road, and do not drive recklessly. I do not do drugs, or join a gang, or dive headfirst into something that I can not see the bottom.
I have seen the marriages of friends and family break up, heart wrenching, sad stories of anger, possesiveness, abuse, mental illness, closet homosexuality, cheating, and more. Wisdom has told me not to go there, so I go it alone. Good partners in life are out there, just very rare.
Wisdom has taught me that friends are only your friends as long as they need you to be, as long as you do whatever it is that they allowed themselves to be your friend for. Money, status, access to a car, presents for children and grandchildren, [in my case, nursing skills], lack of other friends. I have learned not to depend on the friendship, or that it will last. Friends use friends for whatever they can get out of the relationship, and when the relationship is sucked dry, leave. Rare is the friend who stays through thick and thin, and gives back what he takes out of the relationship. But they are out there. I have many friends right now, they are allowed to come in and out of my life as they please. Maybe that is why I have so many. I try not to be the needy friend.
I have learned that when you put someone up on a pedestle,[forgive my spelling, spellcheck isn't working, as usual] the next sound you will hear is plaster cracking. People are rarely what they seem to be, rarely deserve any honors that are paid to them. In this life there are two kinds of people, users and victims. We all struggle every moment not to be a victim.
I have found that nobody will stab you in the back faster than a co-worker. I trust no one at work. I can be friendly, helpful, practice my craft, and be good at it, even leave my co-workers with the idea that I like them, and are friends. But no, there is no friendship. I do not confide in them , I stand up and accept credit for mistakes, and successes. And I will let them do the same. I do not tattle, undermine, or belittle. I expect to be a professional, and I expect them to be that, too. I make it clear that I do not play games, or participate in a power stuggle, even when someone is trying grab the power from me. We are there to take care of the patients.
Am I cynical? I do not think so. Is my wisdom getting in the way of living a full life? I have a full and rewarding life. My knowledge/wisdom protects me from the mistakes I have seen others make. Will I make mistakes? Yes, I have made them, and will make more.
You mention God and faith in your question. I turned away from organized religion many years ago, because it did not want me.
I still have my beliefs, and my faith, wisdom has told me to keep them, and I use them. They, like my wisdom, protect me.
So, if I may, why are you asking this question? Are you a student of the human condition, or are you looking for wisdoms to take up as your own? By my definition, wisdom your experiences, wisdom is nothing if it is not personally yours, it is knowlege if it is not earned..Knowledge is the first step to wisdom.
Just in case someone thinks I take myself too seriously, I, too, had a wisdom tooth pulled, Thursday. It still hurts! Does that mean I lost some wisdom? The dentist has a difficult time pulling it out, and gave me some Tylenol #3. It makes me slow thinking and off balance. LOL. The ability to laugh at yourself is wisdom, too!

Having not only knowledge but being able to apply it to everyday life. For example: I may be the smartest person on earth, but if I don't know how to use my knowledge to help me in life, I have no wisdom.
In the Bible, the only way you can do this is by heeding God's commandments. Solomom, the wisest man to ever live, wrote much on how to live. He also tried to live life to the fullest, and this is the conclusion he came to "Vanity, vanity, all is vanity." There is nothing in this life that can satisfy. The wisest man will realize that life is nothing compared eternity, and will then live his life acccording to God's wisdom.

To me, wisdom is a combination of insight and knowledge. A wise person not only has an answer but also knows how to present it. Sometimes wisdom is knowing there is more than one answer and accepting that those answers may actually contradict each other.

Deep conversations, and deep thinking. An understanding of every aspect of life and other human beings. An open mind and an understanding nature. Something that is achieved over many years, much by the personal experiences we each go through.

Wisdom
2 in Supreme Mathematics

wise-words being spoken, or to speak Knowledge (wise-dome meaning a wise-mind), and act according to it

Wisdom is water, or the vital building block of life. Wisdom is the original woman because through her Cipher (womb) life is continued. It is also a reflection of one's Knowledge, and is shown and proven by the moon, being a reflection of the Sun's light (knowledge). Knowledge + the reflection of Knowledge = Wisdom (1+1=2).

Wisdom to me....hmmmmm. Wisdom is something that's, for the most part, only gained through experience. Not something you can truly pass on.

Wisdom is me not trying to come up with some Buddhist sounding saying, because I know I'm not that poetic.
