Therapy. The more the better. Many doctors will try to prescribe meds, but there is no known med for Borderline Personality. It is just a fancy term for someone who has a difficult time dealing with problems and depression. Therapy is the only way to overcome this behavior. I know from experience and a doctors well laid out plan. The book "I Hate you, Don't leave me" Is not the best book on the subject, however your therapist will be able to recommend much better and easier to understand books. It is a start.
BPD is as how I stated. Someone who has a difficult time dealing with problems and depression!! I have been treated for this and I had NO TRAUMATIC precursors. That would have meant I had Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome NOT BPD. I have 3 doctors and 2 therapists that would testify in court to this. They are the ones who educated me on the meaning and have treated me to a new life that is drug free and the ability to modify my behaviors. Check out the Alliance of Mental Health for more information.

I've worked with women who have been diagnosed with BPD (borderline personality disorder) for the past three years. I can tell you it's something that is difficult to treat, but definitely possible. Usually, the client will take some type of medication. It depends on the exact symptoms. And with BPD, there can be alot of symptoms. Also, a DBT (dialectical behavior therapy) is a relatively new therapy that we've had outstanding results with. Hope this helps and please post again if you have additional questions. Maybe I can be more specific if you have a specific question. You can look up my e-mail on my user profile as well.

I have BPD and it is not a fancy term for someone who does'nt handle problems well as someone stated. It really stems from trauma. Trauma that occurs from early childhood on. There is NO medicine to treat this disorder, only Dilalectic Therapy which is a therapy designed to work through the past. What i mean is that BPD affects the way someone behaves, acts or reacts to events, situations etc. People with BPD wear their heart on their sleeve and are very sensitive because of the trauma they have experienced in their life. They have never learned how to appropriately deal with the issues that are affecting them and so the therapy helps to "peel" the layers. It really works but almost everybody with BPD also suffer from Bi-Polar disorder which is a chemical imbalance. BPD is very hard to diagnose because its symptoms are very similar to Bi-polar disorder. It took the doctors 9 long years to figure me out. Medicine is only used to treat the symptoms like, anxiety and sleep, etc. No medicine like anti-depresents are introduced unless there is depression or other mental illness present. There is a book titled:" I hate you, don't leave me" . I can't remember the author but it gives you all the information about the disorder, including treatment. I hope this helps.

Like all mental illnesses, doctors never consider BPD to be cured, but it most certainly can be treated and controlled and maintained through therapy, and sometimes medication, and there is great hope for people with BPD who enter treatment. If they continue with their treatment plan, they can live a normal life, just like someone without BPD. As a person with BPD gets older, meaning 40 years old plus, most experience an extreme decrease and decline in their symptoms and issues, but once again, if the person stays in treatment they can experience relief a lot sooner.
