Ripleys Believe it or not is a hoot plus you can walk around on sunset, there is always the la brea tar pits too. If you stick around that area shop the thrift store on fairfax then hit canter's deli for dinner. If you are into art there is the huntington and for a theme park remember Universal Studios too. Happy Birthday!!!!

Exposition park has a number of museums...Los Angeles museum of science, LA natural history museum, etc. Also has an IMAX theater there showing educational nature films...sometimes in 3D. Also, the La Brea Tarpits is an interesting one, or try the Los Angeles Zoo. You can also try going to an amusement park...Disneyland, Universal Studios, Magic Mountain, Knott's Berry Farm, etc.

Armand Hammer Museum - Wilsire and Westwood
Norton Simon Museum - Pasadena

The Getty is very nice and is free (aside from the cost of parking). You can look at many works of art, have a nice lunch, go on a free tram ride, see a wonderful view, and walk through the gardens.

The Getty is where locals go. I don't know anyone who's told me that they've been to the museum near USC.

Someone else suggested going to Ripley's Believe it or not...that might be fun. And the wax museum is good for a laugh.

But...go to the Getty instead.

There is a museum on the grounds of USC....there's another one on Wilshire Blvd. going West from downtown about 6 miles called LA Brea Tar Pits....the planetarium at Griffith Park up above the Hollywood Sign....Santa Monica Pier and beach....

Well I would try:
1, The in town hillside Getty (off the 405 in L.A)
--- it is free except for parking and thus as with anything free it is extremely popular--- you have to pre-order tickets months in advance...check it out at their web site...(Note- Getty museum #2 is in Malibu--don't mix them up)...

2. Or Try the newly remodelled Griffith Observatory ( just finished 3 year renovation) obviously it is in Griffith Park just north of Hollywood and to the south-east of the Hollywood sign...

One of the museums we really liked was the Autry Museum of the American West. The current special collection is about Art about Yosemite. There are also wagons, movie props, native american artifacts, etc. We had a great time.
