my aunt and uncle both smoke 2 or 3 packs a day. they have 3 children. 2 out of 3 have learning disabilities. the family rarely any money because of the nicotine addiction mixed with a dunkin dounuts addiction. they need money to fix theyre house but no one will give it to them because they will spend it on cigarettes. so they dont have enough money to afford any treatment because i highly doubt either of them will use the patch or chew the gum. i really worry about them because they are my godparents and theyre kids are at risk too. so if you have any ideas or know anything that works please help.

its tought to talk a smoker into quitting, if they dont really want to quit they wont even try. some people are just stubburn and/or dumb.
you could maybe go over the math though and show them how much money they would save if money is a problem for them

Unfortunately until they decide to stop nothing anyone can really do for them-can't force them and if you nag or constantly bombard with anti-smoking warnings they'll just get resentful-the harm, dangers of smoking and second hand smoke are by now known universally. I would though get them a Ionizer Clean Air Machine-where you can clean the bars-no filters to replace-for at least that will pull the smoke and the harmful stuff out of the air and hopefully will not have chance to go into children's lungs. Although I was with one parent who smoked 3+packs per day-before all the dangers were known-no warnings on cigarette packs or cartons. They need to be responsible enough to clean the rods-machine makes a noise when it needs the rods cleaned as far as their house no need to give them the money-if someone from the family wants to help make It safer and nicer for the kids sake then hire and pay the ones doing the work directly, They obviously will not change unless light goes on in their heads and possible that will never happen so leave them to their fate but can help the kids, give then what they need but get it not the money for it Sorry I couldn't give answer but can't force adults.

No one is going to quit doing anything until they are ready to. Unfortunately, trying to help your aunt and uncle is, more than likely, an exercise in futility. This is the first time I have heard of not having enough money for the essentials because of a nicotine addiction. They should start rolling cigarettes rather than buying them by the pack. As for health issues, you have no control over what they do to their bodies. As far as your cousins, maybe offer to babysit at your house or take them to the park to get them out of the house if you're that worried.

Unfortunately, you can't help a smoker quit unless they want to quit. I'm a smoker who has been hounded by family members and friends about quitting, but I haven't because the desire to quit has never been there. I've been a smoker for a while, however, I don't smoke constantly. Yes, I know...smoking period is dangerous to my health and I'm aware of this fact. I've even seen pictures of smokers' lungs and know what it does to the organs of the body and how it affects the brain, memory, and even demeanor. However, I will quit when I'm ready. The same rule applies to many smokers, but if your aunt and uncle don't want to quit and continue to have financial problems, they will be stuck in the situation they're in now. I'm sure they're aware of the financial and health consequences, but those consequences may pale in comparison to their need/desire for the cigarettes and donuts.
The only thing you can do is offer advice and information about the benefits of quitting smoking and saving money and if you do it often enough, it might start to sink in. Also, when talking to them about their addictions, let them know that the only reason you're bringing it up is because you care for them and their children and don't want to see any of them suffer in the long run. It just might open their eyes to a problem that can only worsen as time goes on.
Good luck!

You can't. Trust me. I smoked for years and wouldn't/couldn't quit until I was ready. I was finally able to kick the habit, but only after realizing you know, if it comes to smoking cigarettes or eating lunch on my breaks, I'd choose the smokes. It's a mental thing. The best thing to do is hope they quit. Don't say anything because it annoys smokers. But you could get online and lookup some information on smoking and how to quit, print it out and just leave it at their house. Then they will get the message you care, but you won't become an irritation.

Sit them down and talk to them, tell them that you are very worried about there health and the health of there kids. They probably wont quit but they could atleast smoke outside away from the kids. This will atleast get them to cut down if they have to go outside to smoke.

if they don't want to stop smoking they won't. it's a hard truth. If talking to them about the risks doesn't work there's not that many other options. Your best chance is to get them to stop smoking around the kids. You have to get them to want to quit or no amount of prodding is going to work. Sorry if that doesn't help much, I know it's tough.

Not until they are ready to stop smoking. Smoking (like drinking or drugs) is an addiction. When you complain to them or nag them, it only makes them smoke more. Just give them your love and support. Pray for them.
