you can expect a long life out of it just because its a jeep and if you take care of it and do all the maintenance things like oil changes and 30k,100k maintenance's you can expect any car to go for a long long time. the key to longevity is maintenance.

What type/size of engine? Manual? How many miles do you have on it now? Regularly maintained? You're probably better off asking a mechanic to take a look, if you are thinking of buying one. I have always heard that Jeeps generally had a less-than 100K life-span, but I'm not so sure that I believe it for newer Jeeps. I have owned three now (two Wranglers, one of them a Sahara and a Jeep Grand Cherokee). In my experience, small things do start to go wrong with the car at about 70K miles (windows don't work properly, seat belt button sticks, stereo problems, just small things that do not necessarily affect the longevity of the car). But the engines seem strong. We sold the Sahara with 130K miles on it and the engine was fine. I'd worry that the '97 Jeep would run well but appear shabby at 300K miles.

Check some of the Jeep forums out there on the net. There are some serious JEEPERS who drive the wheels right off of their vehicles and as long as they are maintained the drivers never complain of problems. I know some may exist, belts and hoses ware down, wiring problems due to rubbing, sticky buttons and control knobs due to time or heavy smoking. If these and other problems are fixed in a timely fashion when they occur then this is a great vehicle. And with regular maintenance should last several hundred thousand miles at least if not more.

I had one that was a 1996...I totaled it..I was upset to hear that they didn't think it was worth more than what they saids it was.

I took care of it and in 7 years I put 480,000miles on it...

That is with regular oil changes at 5000 miles and airfilter every other oil change. gas treatment from stp every gas tank and using Lucas Oil treatment in the oil...I got 25 miles to the gallon before it wqas totaled
