Mandy has been living with my family for 18 mos. She has certainly come a long way but I am not able to successfully capture her without scars. I have to get her to a vet b/c I think she has a urinary tract infection. She has been soiling my rugs constantly & always used the litter along with her sister & my male cat. Please help with any advice. I have become scared of a little "scaredy cat".

Aw, poor girl. She's scared...I'd call the vet and ask them what they think. I love cats and have tamed many, but it takes time. You have to gain their trust. How has she been living with you guys for so long and you still aren't able to get near her? I don't understand. But I know that even if you do catch her, as you said, you'll just end up with a bunch of scratches and maybe a couple of bites! The only possibility I can think of, is to put some food in a cat carrier and watch her closely...if she goes inside it, try to close the door on her as quickly as you can. She will protest loudly, probably...but if she really is sick, she has to go to the vet. You're not hurting her by "capturing" her. Short of shooting her with a tranquilizer gun (which is a sort of extreme measure!), I don't know what else I'd do. Call the vet! They have to have heard about situations like this before. Good luck! :-)

Try getting her her own litter box-cats are very clean and will not use a litter box if not clean in their mind-or a larger litter box for with 3 cats--my sister has the problem and she does not change the litter box often enough so the one cat does not use it until its very clean-just a cat that wants her litter box clean. When cats have a urinary tract infection they will ACT as if constipated but actually not urinating or very little-why she needs her own too .Unless this cat knows that her carrier means the vet and will avoid it -will not go in on her own----but if she will go in then put it on the floor the day of the Vet. appt. leave the door open you can put a treat inside to encourage her then once in, close the door and secure it so she can't get out. If nothing works then you can
1-get a trapping cage/put a treat she likes in the cage towards thee back of the cage when she walks in it will close behind her but she will not be hurt. You can drape a very thin cloth over th top and partial sides of the cage-be less scary for her but make sure she's getting enough air.2 Maybe if you call your vet and explain problem they'll help loan you a cage or give you tranquilizer to give her where she'll be calmer and then easy to handle-the VET would have ideas that work for deal with this all the time. Good Luck an hope cat will be OK

By placing her food and water dish in a cat carrier where she has to get her food only that way should do it for you.If she has a favorite treat, leave some for her in the pet carrier as well.Be sure not to allow her outdoors and not have another means for her to get food and water.Oven mitts that have a long sleeve may also work as a quick fix for capturing her without getting all scratched up.Have the pet carrier ready for her so that you can transfer her into the carrier immediately.Once inside the carrier.Reward her with a treat and try comforting her with some soothing talk.Assuring her that all is well.

As one other writer suggests, cat nip is the answer. Most cats just can't resist the smell and seem to go into a trance-like state when they get near it, usually rolling around where the smell is and completely oblivious to what's happening around them.
Try spraying some on the carpet near the open cage (don't worry, it doesn't stain and we can't smell it). When the cat is rolling around in ecstasy pick her up with thick gloves on which you've also sprayed cat mint - also wear a thick, long sleeved jacket. Gardening gloves are usually OK.

Good luck and if it doesn't work, I'll fly over with the Elastoplasts !!

Well, what I have done with my cat's in the past is I leave the cat carrier open on the floor so they can get used to it, and then before I take them to the vet or for a ride someplace, I will play with them and then pick them up one at a time and put them in their carrier. Cat treats also work. Also if you can get her into a room with you, you could close the door and pick her up that way. That way she does not run away from you and she is limited in places to hide. I really hope this helps. :-)

I hope your cat starts feeling better soon!

First get some gloves that come up to your elbows, like the yellow cleaning gloves from the store. This will help limit the scratches you may get. Don't act like you are trying to catch her. Sit on the couch and let her come to you. When she does, grab her by the nap of the neck with one hand to control her and pick her up with the other hand. You can also try putting treats, etc in a carrier and shutting the door when she goes in. Either should work.

A live trap and a can of food works wonders, and doesn't hurt the cat at all. You put the food in the trap, cat walks in, trap closes. Bingo, you got your cat. It worked for me, and a turkey sandwich tamed the little blessing, who now is 6 years old and still likes turkey! And yes, get your girl to the vet asap. That's unusual in a cat that's been housetrained before! Whoops, forgot to mention, you can usually borrow a trap from the local animal control people or your humane society, which is where I got mine.

You could lure her over with food then grab her and put her in a pet carrier asap. I have one "scaredy cat" and three regular cats (actually 1 is grown the the other two are 2 month old kittens I raised from 2 weeks when their mama died) and ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

There are "live" traps you can buy or rent. Don't but food out for a day or so & then put her favorite food in the trap. Tuna is good. I've done this for feral cats.
