For a stuffy nose (trust me I am doing the same thing) Fill a large bowl with very warm water and 2-3 Tbs salt, lower your face into the bowl and try to gently breathe in and out of your nose. Obviously, you will need to come up for air and have a towel near to wipe your face. Hot tea also helps, sleep with your head elevated, honestly a reclining chair works best.
For a cough- Delsym is the best.

My colds hardly ever last more than a few hours. This works for me, don't know if it will work for anyone else. A quick gulp of the orange Triaminic cold and allergy medicine, two Alka Seltzer Cold tablets, and a bowl of Campbell's chicken noodle soup ( the cheap stuff). Cold is usually gone in a few hours, depending on how run down I've gotten. I've never heard of a cold getting worse at night. Good luck.

I always take NyQuil and wrap up in some warm blankets. I rarely ever get sick in anyway but colds are always gone in a day or two with NyQuil and sleep.
