An 81-yr old female relative has slightly reddened, raised whelps on the inside of her bottom lip. She's had a biopsy by a specialist, had treatment for dry mouth by dentist, but they don't know what it is. She says it is very painful, and doctors won't give her any pain medicine, tho she is in good health otherwise, and has never had a problem with abusing meds or taking paid meds in past. They give no reason for not giving something to relieve her pain. She was an active woman, never sickly. Has taken to her bed. Very unusual for her. Family has no explanation for it except she says it is so painful, no relief, worried about it. What are some possibilities?! Have looked on Google, but not found it yet. She has dentures, but this isn't just irritation from that.

there is no reason for the Dr. not to order pain medication that's a sign of a bad Dr. get rid of them now!!!!! it could be thrush? it could be a canker? is there any abuse going on? it could be alot of things but are u sure it is being tested? go to another dentist, have her dentures been checked for fit and cleaned regularly? eating problems are very dangerous in the elderly it leads to a whole mess of things!!! Dont wait if u really care, be proactive not passive and accusatory.

What was the specialist that saw her? That may make a difference! You could try OTC(over the counter) ALUM powder available at pharmacy - in th event it is a canker sore - they are very painful --Alum is very bitter - but effective.

It's possible that she has Shingles which is from the same virus as Chicken Pox. Ask a physician to examine her for that. Mouth sores can be a part of that.

Could be her dentures, u need to clorox them 5 min. and rinse well.
She needs green tea bag with honey on it.
Also for mouth pain, try camphor, ice, or aloe vera plant which is instant relief.

that's very good that she saw a doctor..
ask them for a pain killer. if they refuse, ask why?
ask, ask ask--- be informed...
keep a diary of all the things she does and eats...
usually if there is no organic cause, it is an allergy...
or in her case, could be her dentures... did she change adhesives recently? could be allergic to that...
good luck, be persistant
