Because despite the high energy costs we currently have, it's still cheaper than solar power. The cost of solar panels and batteries and such makes it cost 2 to 5 times as much as buying power from the grid. That may be changing with future developments, but right now it's still too expensive to convert.

because people are stupid. i run my house on solar and i actually PROFIT off of it! i generate all the electricity that i use and all the excess i sell. it also raised the value of my house by 5,000 even though i only have 2,000 worth of solar. plus i save the environment by not releasing co2 like the power plant does. and i guess the real reason is because people don't know the facts and myths about them. myth#1. solar panels dont work in cloudy weather. WRONG! cloudy weather only decreases the energy produced bo them by about 1-5%. so you still got 95% efficiency. myth#2. they are too expensive. WRONG! 100W solar panels are about $95.00 if uou go to the right place. plus just by getting them it increases the value of your house. and your property taxed do not go up. myth#3. they need maintenance. WRONG! there's no moving parts and most even come with a 20 YEAR warranty. myth#4 they are hard to install and will wreck my roof. WRONG! solar panels are just bolted or drilled on and they actually extend the life of your roof by absorbing the impact from hail. dont worry, the panels are designed to withstand hail, rain, wins, and snow. so ultimately solar panels are the best choice for upgrading your house and its value. so get out their and buy some solar panels!

I think it is because we already HAVE power in our homes and in our businesses and the individual wonders what he or she can do to alter that.
The average homeowner / apartment dweller has electric power flowing into his or her abode from the day they move in, and they may think "gosh, wouldn't it be nice to use solar power or some other form of energy" but it truly does not affect them.
It takes a lot of effort to look into the question, and then convince the powers that be to change the established source of energy.

This is because SOLAR PANELS are needed to trap the solar energy and avoid it from escaping.
Also, solar energy can only be acquired at daytime.

I think it's pretty expensive to get it installed. It does pay for itself, but you have to have money to put it in. My husband and I want to do this with our house. Hopefully, we'll be in the position to do it someday.
