We would love to know our children but some kids today are so secretive that it's really hard to get to know them.

A lot of people become parents without knowing just how tough the job can be. Once it happens they don't, and I hate to say this, want to take that step towards unselfishness quite yet. And sometimes they never do take that step. But despite how much time they don't want to give their child they do want to love them. Unfortunatley there is no true love from a parent who does not take the time to know their child. The questions are really one in the same; Why do parents neglect loving their children by not knowing them?
On the other hand, there is a love from a parent who takes the time to know their child but not to indulge or speculate every single thing the child does. This may look like they do not know them or care to notice what's going on but in fact they do see what is happening and simply do not jump on everything, be it good or bad, the child does. There is love in this because they're not nagging or judging too harshly.
But when a parent neglects nagging or judging when necessary there is no true, deep love.

How can one love ones child and not know him? A person can give a child love and affection, but if they don't take the time to interact with that child on a personal level, they will not be able to relate to her or him.
I'm guessing that parents who love their children but don't interact with them on a one to one basis are either too busy with their own work or lifestyle, or have other personal unrelated problems to deal with.
It's tragic, because a person can make the most impact on a child's life between the child's ages of 2 through 8. Parents need to turn off the TV, listen to their children, talk to their children, have dinner together every night, and lots of family time together.

Usually it is not that parents don't want to know them, it's the children who don't let them. Some parents do try to get to know their children, but some kids are too much into themselves or are too embarrased to do things with their parents that the parents don't even bother trying anymore.

Asilos,
How old are you? You parents may love you and not know you. It's a strange concept to understand, but there are alot of factors someone in their teens or early 20s may not understand.
They can BOTH love you and not know you.

huh? don't you automatically love your children? remember as parents we do to our kids as our parents did to us - talk -show love- and anything else unless parents break the cycle this will keep happening-did that make sense to you?

because knowing them is more work than loving. you have to get to see their personality, likes, dislikes, moods, and happy spots. while loving..you can just buy them a computer to show that you care. which isn't hard at all...is it?

I understand what you're saying. But I have no idea why some parents are like that.
