And if they put them on the left, you would not be able to see them where there is no median because oncoming traffic would be hiding them.

Well, lets see...let me give you a typical case scenario...you are on a four lane road, two going one way, the other two going the other...you are in the far right lane in medium traffic. Now the sign you need to see will get you to your destination...okay, now will you be able to see that sign on the left clearly as you sped by...35 maybe 50mph? A good solution was that it is over - head now all signs...you'll drive underneath it.

Because too many drivers cross the line (pun intended) -- posting signs there is a hazard to everyone -- see how many signs get run over when they're in those little islands?

You can't see across the width of the car to see a sign? Can't put a sign in the middle of the road, now can ya?
Don't tell me it's different in Britain.

Because the driver is in the right lane of the highway. Therefore that sign should be in the right lane

Want to change those signs? Get a position in DOT.
Your run around trying to read signs in TEXAS, you'll get run over very quickly.

There's more space for signs on the right hand side and it would be safer for the people who have to work on them.

I think it would be to keep the median open in case it was needed for emergency vehicles to get through.

It would be hard to read if it were on the left, esp. on divided highways.
