The Bible is called the inspired word of God, and rightly so. However, I think that most every story in the Bible is fictional or borrowed from somewhere else. I am a Christian. I believe in the Christ. I believe the Bible is absolutely necessary as a guide book, not because of the stories, but rather for the principles the stories are suppose to stand for. Is that misguided or spiritually immature?

Very refreshing from a christian. You are closer to the hidden, deeper meaning. The teachings are ALL about you, your separation from the One, and your journey back.
Look at the confusion caused by taking this stuff literally!

How do you know about Christ if it weren't for the Bible? Yet you say you think it is fictional or borrowed?????

This sounds like a contradiction. So to place a vote on your question .... I would say it is misguided.

The Bible consists of many different kinds of stories: poetry, history, letters.
All must be examined exegetically.
Find out what it meant to those who originally received it, and you may know what God's saying to you through it today.

There is no way to speak of "the Bible" as if it is one book. There are stories, myths, history, poetry, songs, etc. When you are reading, you have to know what kind of literature you are reading in order to understand what it is meant to say.
