There have been a few similar questions, and I suggest that you also check in the search field under 'study'.
I also got conditioned to get sleepy as soon as I opened a text book! It's not funny, is it?
Okay, some of the suggestions from the other similar question are:
Do not recline when you read, but sit up straight.
Have a notebook and pencil and write notes.
When you feel sleepy get up and stretch.
Read out loud to yourself.
Remember why you are taking the course and why it is important to read the material, and make an effort.
While you are reading keep shifting position from sitting forward, back, shift your legs from in front of you, to the side, other side.
Get up and stretch and take a 5 minute break every half hour even if you are not sleepy.
Even now, if I get insomnia, all I have to do is get out my old sociology book and open it. *yawns*
oh, going out and getting laid will not help,, in fact it will only be more of a distraction to you. I do hope you have a balanced life though, 'all work and no play makes jack a dull boy',, but healthy play.
I hope this helps.

Being a virgin is a problem for a college student. Get laid and your mind will be somewhere else. Plus, if you have a girlfriend who would give you some (you know what I mean) your confidence will be higher and you will no longer have an excuse to not concentrate.
Anyways, sex is overrated; it's not all what's cracked up to be. It's fun and stuff but when you have it, you will know that life is not all about having sex.
To solve your concentration problem, here is a thought. If you are over the age of 18, try working at a warehouse or a fast-food restaurant. See how people treat you and how people look at you when you serve them. If you're smart enough, you know it's best to get an education. Four years of hard studies is better than a lifetime of hard work and no 401k.
Hope it helps. By the way. Remember to get laid. YOU WILL LOVE IT.

Find a nice quiet comfortable place to study. Have a snack handy. Give yourself a time limit to study or read something. Then reward yourself after a half hour or so. Let's say you read one chapter of your textbook - answer all the questions mentally. Then take a 5-10 minute break. Go back to your studies for another half hour and repeat until you're finished. When you're completely finished with everything, test yourself on everything you read (written, verbally, or mentall - whatever works for you).

I have that problem, too. it happens to me when I start studying right after lunch or dinner, eating in general. Taking a siesta is actually a healthy and good thing to do to your body, and it will keep you from falling asleep during your studies. Try resting for about 20-30 minutes after a meal (you shouldn't totally fall asleep) before you open a book.
hope this helps.
as for you fantasizing about sex...sure, that could have something to do with it, too. don't know how to help you there

You don't sound interested in studying. Take a gap year, go out to work and see how you like it. Who knows? This might be your wake-up to your calling in life. If you decide to go back to school, you might realise that studying wouldn't be as boring.
And no, it hasn't got to do with the fact that you're a virgin.

No being a virgin has NOTHING to do with it! Find a subject you like, put aside some exercise time, give yourself breaks, drink some juice or water while you work, chew some gum. Put on some soft music.

My adult children said they always went to the library to study....just to prevent the distractions you are speaking of. The other rule they followed was: never get behind one day in not understanding a lecture....go immediately to the tutor center on campus where they tutor on any subject for practically no money. Good luck.......

i'm a virgin and a guy. but what does that have to do with anything? you could be not getting enough sleep. maybe sex is waht you need. but be wise. aids is no little s--t. try masturbation. it helps pass the time. also drink pepsi. try walking for energy. and sleep.
