It depends if you are in the northern hemisphere or the southern hemisphere. In the northern hemisphere water will drain counterclockwise. In the southern hemisphere water will drain clockwise. You do want to do things the natural way, don't you?

The supposed reason for this is the Coriolis effect, which has to do with the effect of the earth's rotation on moving objects. It explains why macroevents such as hurricanes rotate in a clockwise direction in the Southern Hemisphere and counterclockwise in the Northern Hemisphere.

First I stir clockwise and then anticlockwise, then clockwise again and if I feel like it anticlockwise. Possibly follow with a mad 'spoon goes everywhere' episode to really get the earl grey flying around.

Clockwise is the way normal people do it.
Also it give you a better stir, because the scoop of the spoon is outward.

Do you also worry about whether the bathroom tissue dispenses from the front or the back? Here again an example of someone with too much time on their hands or having to have a 'right' answer. Personal preference my dear. There is no right way or wrong way, no better or worse way, there is just personal preference.

That depends on if you want to sweeten it or unsweeten it. To sweeten it, clockwise. Unsweeten it anti-clockwise
