I am sorry to hear about your pet cat and yes I love sharing my day with my cat he gives me lots of affection and on days that I really feel like nothing seems to go right he comes next to me and nudges me letting me know there is one small furry friend who will always be there for me. Our pet cats really are one of our true friends in the sense that they are there to listen to everything we have to say with the security none of it will be repeated they are there to share in the glory or the difficulty of our day. We can never do anything wrong in there eyes unless you consider forgeting to change a full litter box before going to work ... then they may have a little attitude but apologies are always accepted quickly they never hold grudges for long. And yes I do believe animals understand our language to a point.

I have had cats and dogs and love them both. The have a perceptional ability that humans don't. It goes beyond the tone of your voice. I have a Yorkshire Terrier that turned 17 today. I hold her and talk to her all the time. May years ago, I was very depressed and was actually thinking of taking my life. My cat, Sammie, could tell something was wrong and wouldn't leave me alone. She wanted me to know that she needed me. She lived to be almost 19. I buried her and on her stone I have an inscription, "in my darkest hour she was there." The sad thing is that their life span is so short.

I always talked to my pets. I usually had cats, one dog and now I have a rat. All my pets love to be chatted with and I know they understand some human speech such as my dog understood the word Walk, I didn't believe in leashes and collars so she never had one it was simply the word. My cat sadie knew the word Treat, I would give her pounce cat treats and I could say other words but that word would perk her up and she would run to the kitchen and my rat knows the word Out she knows when I say that word I am letting her out of her cage and she gets very excited

Yes I talk to my cat everyday. My cat feels like my baby and almost like human. In the morning I'd communicate with her and she knows to roll over for the sakes of can food. It's amazing knowing cats have a mind, some are almost about as even as dogs! I have a very clever cat, she's like a dog. She plays fetch, smell shoes, chases her tail, and rolls over. My friend has a cat, and she's nothing to compare to mine. I have a very... active fun one. I'll have to cry if she's missing one day, hopefully never.
Truly, a girls best friend....

Absolutely. All the time. They make more sense than a lot of people! And they DO understand, at least some of what you say. When I say 'Come-A-Hookey' to my old cat, he comes running. Hookey is his 'pet name' - and he doesn't respond to much else! He's way better company than my husband is most of the time, not grumpy, not depressed, not whiney. My youngest responds to "where Baby" almost every time, and it seems to comfort him when he's howling at nonexistent things as siamese will do.

Can't you get another cat? You should. The shelters are full of fur people who need company and homes!

I have had pets my whole life & I've always talked to them. When I arrive home, all three of my cats come & greet me. If I sing a certain song, my male cat comes rushing to find me. All I have to say is "Let's all have 'kitty-cat party'!" & they go to the toy box & start pulling out their mice. My cats really do act more like dogs!

When I had a goldfish i would talk to him everyday by tapping on the bowl with a spoon and then putting my lips against the bowl while I was speaking so that he could hear the vibration of my speech. He must have known that I was cinversing with him because he always played hide and seek by slipping over to the opposite side of the bowl to show that he was paying attention. We played that game until one day when I was getting his attention with the spoon he got so excited at the game that he jumped right out of the bowl and slid under the couch. By the time that I got him out with the broom and dusted him off with the vac he had lost a lot of his enthuse for my talking to him and just drifted around upside down near the surface. That was the last talking session.

My husband and I talked to our cats all the time. I think over time they do start to understand some words, but not a lot. I think your right in they tend to be more in tune with you if you talk to them. It never fails, my cats always seem to know if one of us is hurt or sad. They climb up in our lap and purr, seemingly trying to make everything better.

I grew up with cats and have a dog now, and I have always loved talking to them! They're great to talk to because you can tell them anything and they don't really care! I also like talking to them because then if I find that I'm talking to myself I can just play it off like I was talking to the dog! =)
