If those are your only two choices go for the St. Bernard!

The husky is much more likely to be agressive with a small child, they also do not get along well with other pets in many cases.. The St. Bernard will be gentle and protective, but slobber. Be prepared for all of you to be kissed by a very wide tongue! And they are VERY protective of family. Sign up for obedience classes immediately, this is too big a dog not to get the upper hand right away.

Both are big shedders and need lots of attention in the spring and fall. I hope you live in a colder climate.

Be careful with huskies and children they may not be the best family dog. Golden retrievers are great with kids. A St. Bernard is probably more kid friendly than a husky but very large. Personally I would get a mixed golden retriever from the local animal shelter. There are hundreds of dogs daily put down cause nobody wants them. Good Luck in your search.

If you have the room and the money I'd say the St. Bernard. Otherwise I'd say the husky mix. I find that mix breeds have a much better temperament than pure breed. Pick the puppy that is good for the family. When you get them young you can help enrich their environment by adding to their human social surroundings. Puppies are so much fun!!!

a husky is a very protective dog and if its a male it takes charge of it domaine. a st. benard if its less than 1 year old it is a good dog to have around a child if you want a choice of a great dog to have around children i would go with a begal or a lab the lab is the best with kids.

Can you imagine cleaning up after a baby and a St. Bernard.
Also, think how much dog food would cost.
You better save the money for college rather than dog food.
Get the husky.

I'd want to know what the other 1/2 was with the Husky, but either way you are looking at some big food bills.
Huskies can be aggressive depending on how they are bred...I'd be concerned about having one with a baby in the home.
How about checking out your local Humane shelter and giving someone a new home that needs one.

Huskies are natural wanderers and require tons of attention and exercise. I don't know much about St. Bernards, but, the size factor would be a definite "no" for me. Try getting a chocolate or golden labrador, they are great with kids. Our 6 y/o, chocolate lab is a sweetie and she lets the kids do anything to her.

A St. Bernard is a high maintenance dog and if you live in a temperate climate that drool and shed constantly also they eat a lot of dog food also by the same token cleaning the yard or there pen area is not pleasant. They are not good in the house because of there drooling

I dont understand why do you want to spend that much money on a dog when you go to the pound and get one for next to nothing and save a life ?
Pound puppies are just as good as them high dollar dogs and they have many dogs that are looking for a good home and people to love them

And you start getting into them purebreeds they breed from sisters , to mothers and its a whole family affair and you can get into major medical expenses that way . My parents are going through that right now
