There's very little space between my house and my neighbor's. His bedroom window faces my living room windows. This neighbor is very quiet EXCEPT when he practices his drums in his bedroom, and I'm not exaggerating. It penetrates my living room windows and I even hear it into my bedroom. Today I was in my bedroom and I heard the drums and went into my living room and oh boy, it is so loud. About four weeks ago, I asked him in person in a very nice way to figure something else out because I hear the drums clearly in my living room, but he's back to doing it. Any suggestions? I know he's in the privacy of HIS home, but sadly, these drums penetrate in to my home.

my little brother plays his drums sooooo flipping loud, so i completely sympathize. i have the room next to his, and when he practiced.....let's just say he's not the best drummer. i kindly asked him to move his drums to the basement. maybe you can ask your neighbor again to move his drums. maybe he thought that not playing loudly for a while would make you feel better about it. if he doesn't move them, you can probably file a complaint with whoever runs the subdivision where you live (if you live in one!!) he probably will get the hint if you ask him again though.

HMM... Good question. What time does he practice his drums? Does he do this at any random time or can you all talk to each other over a hot cup of soup or something and see if he can make it a habit to practice when you are at work, or not around. This would be good as well, so maybe you can put on headphones when its say " 4.30pm" You know that " Carl " from across the street is about to play his drums so you either,go out with a friend, or put ur headphones on. THINGS CAN BE COMPROMISED, it juts take s alil time. If you just say to him nicely, You know, its not that I mind you playing the drums, its your house.. but maybe if you practice at a certain time I can schedle something else to do when you are doing that. Its not anoying, that it's loud and I am a quiet person." Is that nice?

ask him to soundproof. The easiest way is for him to put up foam or egg cartons covering all the walls and ceiling in the room. I take that back, first try to see if he can play in the garage or basement, if he has one, then go the soundproofing route. otherwise, unless he's playing all hours of the night there's not much you can do. If the sound is so loud and you are both in house, I suspect that the set is electronic and that he really just needs to turn down the volume, but if the drumset isn't, their isn't much else you can do except move. sorry.

Your first 3 answers here are only going to aggravate the problem. He might agree to the soundproofing if you agree to pay all or most of the bill. Short of moving away, there is no guarantee of success.

You might try to work out a practise schedule with your neighbour so that you can go and visit friends, family or the mall while he practises.

Good Luck

If he has an electronic drum kit, he can use head phones and not make any sound. He could also plug his drums into his computer and mix his music.

Otherwise, you may need more insulation, including insulated drapes.

I had neighbors that were complete jerks too. After the police refused to get involved...yes, that's right, they refused...I ended up moving.

His privacy ends where yours begins. He is being a nuisance and disturbing the peace. Take it from there...

if you move his darn drums while he's away, bolt them down in a new locale, he'll have to play them there ;)
