This is something of a story, please bear with me.
My downstairs neighbor frequently play his music excessively loud. And I mean excessively! It rattles the change off my coffee table. I've spoken to him repeatedly, and he always turns it down to merely loud. But then turns it back up within the hour. Yesterday, I had enough, and I called the cops. They were perhaps too effective, they arrested two of my other neighbors who were down their drinking with him. I know this because he came up to my apartment and told me so. He also said, in no uncertain terms, that he was going to slash my tires and his friends in jail were going to come after me. He didn't slash, and I'm not afraid of his friends, as I could easily take them (I weight as much as both of them together and have a black belt). But this is just intolerable, and I don't feel I should have to put up with it. Without getting anyone sent to serious jail, what can I do to make them be more reasonable neighbors?

Call the police and let them know that they have threatened to slash your tires, etc. There needs to be a paper trail should anything further occur. Also your apartment manager needs to be informed about this. Their behavior is in violation of their lease, and could lead to their eviction. Your neighbor/s is/are breaking the law.

Best wishes.

First off keep calling the police after a few times it will become an annoyance to the police and they will put a stop to it. You should also advise the police about the threats being made by your neighbor. Let the threats be put on record in case any of them become a reality.

What I fail to understand about you earthlings is how you all deal with the EFFECT and not the CAUSE. This is true with health problems, with human relations, with life. In your case, you're dealing with the outcome of perhaps a zillion different decisions made by you, your neighbor, and others. You decided to live in this apartment complex. Think back to the gut feeling you had as you were looking into the place. Rather than trying to "deal" with this problem neighbor, think instead about moving to a different place. I had a similar experience with a guy who paced all night and I didn't get sleep for like five months. I finally decided to just move, and then got my sleep. I owned a home where the neighbors were comlete idiots, calling the cops on my sons who were being roudy. I sold the house and now have the money to look into other options. The Bible says, "Woe to them who live door to door." Earthlings need room, space, privacy, and quiet in order to sleep, to think, and to work.

Tell the police about his threats. You may need to get a restraining order which will be difficult since he lives in the same building. Apparently, he is just a miserable creep and you won't be able to change him but maybe the landlord can. Have a heart to heart talk with the owner and tell him that this neighbor is going to destroy his property.

I would tell the landlord that if they don't do something about this, then they will have to let you out of your lease as this is unbearable. If this does not work, then warn your neighbors that you have been hospitable but you can't take the loud noise and you will continue to call the cops and suggest they move...these are your 2 options...

Keep calling the police again and again. Let them handle this. Tell them about the threats to slash your tires. You learn as a black belt to avoid fights when ever possible. Good luck!

As it is always best to let the police take care of the situation, you did all you can do, you confronted them. Just keep calling the police and they will most likely get tired of it and move on to a di fferent location. I had to deal with a similiar incident and it was taken care of eventually.. Good Luck

Yikes- what a hassle for you!

As you probably know his threats are illegal, and next time you talk to him have a tape recorder in your pocket and record the conversation-

You can then inform him that you have sent a duplicate recording of his threats to you solicitor and should anything happen to you or your possessions the police will be interested in talking to him.

What a jerk!

Honestly, they sound like most of the people in the world...selfish jerks. Obviously, there is nothing you can do (especially now) that will ever change that. So my advice to you is not to worry about it. They'll get over it. It's not like it's your fault they went to jail. You didn't make them commit a crime, did you?
