Hey, i was just wondering if it would be alright to just drink protein shakes instead of eating regular breakfast and lunch, and then in the evening eat a light meal like a salad or some fruit to get the minerals and vitamins that are not present in the protein shake.?

I heard this idea on the show Nip\Tuck when the young doctor said that the key to his extremely muscular and fit physique is not eating food and just drinking shakes and light meal in the evening....and working out of course.

just protien probably isn't just what your body needs. your body needs other things too besides protien. try a protien shake in the morning with an apple or some kind of friut two hours later eat another piece of fruit or a vegtable, then for lunch try to do the same thing as u did for breakfast, then when two hours have past have a snack like a piece of fruit again. u have to keep up with the vitimuns and minerals your body needs or take vitimins with just your protien shakes. but remember if you have ever drank them they can get kind of sickening. this will also keep the metabolism up.

Yes, that is perfectly fine. I did that for about eight months in that I had a protien shake for breakfast, a protein bar for lunch, and a peice of chicken, fish, or turkey with a small side salad for dinner. It worked great. I lost a lot of weight, and I'm sure if I had been lifting free weights at the time I would've toned my muscles as well.

Good idea but excess protein can lead to kidney failure. There are several types of protein and you also need to see how much protein you need. It's kinda risky in a sense but not a bad idea. Look at the Atkins diet. Just watch the amount of protein you take in verses what you need. Drink lots of water also to flush out your kidneys. Just speaking from experience, I've been a paramedic for 6years and have seen young people have kidney failure. Just be careful man.

ok, let's not get our nutritional advice from a sensationalized show about plastic surgery. it's NOT ok to drink protein shakes in place of your meals. at best, they're supposed to supplement an already balanced diet comprised of real foods. odds are, if you're buying your shakes (like the slim fast kind), you'll just end up with a ton of sugar. stick to traditional healthy foods, because your body is made to handle those, not the artificial stuff. good examples include lean meats, low fat dairy, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and oils.
