People make it sound like they were forced into it. They say Bush is killing our troops. They knew what they were getting themselves into when they enlisted in the military. When will people finally undersatnd?

For civilians (not in the military), they will probably never understand. The military is a "force" we have to "protect" our nation, whose main job is ????? Let one of them get wounded or killed in action, and up go the cries of "Bring Them Home" or "The President is a Murderer".

For those in the military who have forgotten, you signed the contract. You had to be 18 to do so. If you were 17, your parents had to sign. It is not the Army, Navy, Air Force or Marine Corps fault that you did not read the contract you signed.

I am sick to death of these armchair quarterbacks who just don't get it. The military members are there of their own free will. Bush didn't make them go. Congress didn't make them go. They signed a contract with whatever branch of service they are in. Unfortunately, part of the job description in the military is people will shoot at you, and you might die.

Great question - it's nice to know I'm not the only one who wonders these things.

I agree. The troops know what they were going to have to do when they signed up. Some of them just didn't believe that we would ever go to war when they enlisted. they figured they would get college paid for, and just have to "play army" one weekend a month. but most of the troops believe we are fighting for a just cause, and they fight for the freedom of those oppressed. I'm enlisting because i have pride in my country, and I want to be a part of the greatest fighting force in the world. I'm not poor, i have a wonderfull future, but i definetelly see the air force as part of it. There was no gun to my head. I do it because i'm a proud american.

ALOT of people joined the military, before 9/11, thinking that nothing would happen...and now that something has called them to do their jobs they are scared. Also because alot of parents don't agree with the war is what's causing alot of ruckus, that their child is going to do something they don't agree with. I joined the military almost 6 years ago and knew the day I raised my right hand that it might happen and knew what I was doing. People who joined after 9/11 have no right to cry or complain because they should have known that they were going to go over there.

Everyone is made promises, but they don't realize the complexity of the situation that they have gotten themselves into. All branches of the military are voluntary, but no one really thinks that they are going to go to war. When it comes time to be true, you see them run and hide, scared that the decision they have made might take them to their grave. I am a troop and I knew the consequences of my actions well before I signed on the doted line. I have also signed for more years, I'm working on 7 years right now, I think I might be a lifer.

You are addressing two different issues, really. First, yes all our troops are volunteers (except those that were due to get out and were stop-lossed) and yes they all signed contracts. As such, they have no reason to complain. The second issue is poor leadership at the top. The soldiers are doing their job, now it's time for the people at the top to do their jobs, and make good decisions.

Because they do NOT want to understand our Military Service is VOLUNTARY!

A lot of this is misinformation presented in the media, by word of mouth, through individuals who have NO IDEA of the Military Service Commitment, nor would EVER have even thought of volunteering themselves for Service.

I totally agree with you 100%. It's a volunteer military, so why do people keep b.i.t.ch.i.n.g about bringing our troops back. They join and they know there is a War going on. They joined because they beleive in what they are fighting for. I say people should just shut up and support them. I will be joining the Army, and when i hear people say this, it gets me mad, and sometimes i don't wanna join because people are always saying bad stuff.

As for the mis guided fools that state their opinions well here is mine,

My son is currently serving, joined when he was 17 and YEP I did have to sign for him, we are in no way poor and it was totally his choice to join, he picked the Air Force for a slew of reasons and whilst I might not always believe in them I at least will respect them and back him up 100%..same as I have been doing for my husband who is in the Navy.............

People join for a variety of reasons, he him self has expressed some concern over the reasons as to why many of his fellow service members joined, many to escape bad home conditions, the opportunity for a higher education, whatever BUT they ALL joined willingly.

Those like myself who have actually served, and those who support us know that the military is voluntary. Those of you special few who think recruiters only profile the poor need to sit down over a cup of coffee and have a long talk with yourselves.

I am soooo glad you said this!!! I hate when people say that stuff!!! My husband wanted to join!!! When September 11th happenned he knew then that he wanted to go to Iraq but he had to graduate high school first... lol. He's now serving in the Marine Corps. It's ignorant of people to say the things they do and I don't know when they'll ever understand but at least some of us do!!!
