This is state (US) or provincially (Canada) governed. A person can babysit at 12 years of age (ya right). Generally, I would not have anyone under 14 look after my kids at all. For a weekend, 17 or 18.

It depends on the environment, of course.

There really isn't any "legal" age to be a babysitter. However, I think the decision is totally up to the parents of the child. If it is over a two day or week long span I would want my child to watched by a trusted family member rather than some kid or adult I hardly know.

I would not have a kid watch them that long. I would have an adult, because they should at least be able to drive in case of an emergency, and anyone under the age of 18 would not be able to sign for medical care if they got hurt and had to go to the hospital.

I would only leave my children with an adult. It doesn't matter to me how "mature" a teen appears to be. I'd be leaving my teenagers with an adult. I certainly ouldn't feel safe if I had a teen watching kids over the week end. For a few hours is much different.

Why is this a legal question? How old are you? It's up to the parents to decide if they are comfortable with you and your ability to care for the kids for that long.

Unfortunately in Nh it is 14...I think it should be older and would never leave my son with a 14 year old that long.

i believe that theres no law for that, i think.

i think it's all up to the parents'. they should trust their judgement and if they feel this certain person is mature enough to babysit their children.
