It's good enough to "make the grade" but it's not nearly enough to excell. Do you want to be GOOD on the violin? Then 90 a DAY is a far more reasonable amount.
Professional classical musicians practice anywhere from 6-12 hours a DAY!

"Practice I5 minutes a day" is often suggested to beginning students so they get in the habit of practicing. Progress can be made at this rate, but it will be very slow. Serious students will practice considerably more. Students who do not concentrate on their practice and merely put in the time will not improve no matter how many minutes are spent. It sounds like you are being required to keep a practice log. By all means comply, but simply keeping such a log will not make you a better musician. If you want to become a good musician, stay focused while you practice and practice each day until it stops being productive. Some days that might be 10 minutes, other days it might be 2 hours.

Depending how good you wanna be. I have friends, violinists, guitarists pianists, all of them practice every day for HOURS!

Maybe your teacher says that to motivate his/her students to study every day, of course 15 minutes of scales every day would be better than nothing.

But, if you really want to be good playing the violin, I would say you should practice at least 1 or 2 hours a day. Then with the time you will practice more and more... violin is a extremely beautiful but difficult instrument to play.

Good luck dear.

Practicing any musical instrument for only 15 minutes a day is sub-standard. It barely keeps your calluses toughened enough.

Give your teacher and yourself more than what is asked--practice as a minimum an hour every day, but go for several hours at every sitting.

If the violin means only a fair grade then you're in the wrong department at playing the instrument. Go beyond the expected and the results will more than satisfy you and the teacher.

This is advise to students that are not necessarily devoted to the violin, but are taking the class for other reasons than the Art of Music. 90 minutes would probably get you a C. A serious student will practice a minimum of 90 minutes, but more likely 2 hours per day, rain or shine.

Depends on how good you want to be.

A professional literally devotes a life to something. That means that 6 - 10 hours a day, they are performing, practicing, studying.

It may be good enough for your school orchestra, but if you wish to be a good player? I would spend more time each chance I got!

i play violin and i say that depending on your level you should practice like this, beginner, 15-20 minutes a day. intermediate 30-40 minutes a day and expert should practice around 40 to han hour. dont strain yourself. find a set level that works for you. and remember you dont have 2 practice it all in 1 big chunk of time. for instance break it up into sections. if you're doing 4 minuted a day, do 20 and then do whatever else you have to do and the do the other 20. this makes it alot easier and you can still get all that you need to done.

Thats it? I play for about 2 hours a day and that is just for pleasure!! When I am practicing some pieces, I spend AT LEAST 4 hours working on them. Of course, everything has to have time to sink in.

I teach music and my answer is this: it depends on what you are trying to get out of your lessons. You will get out exactly what you put into them. So if you want to be good, practice more. When i began my music study, i practiced 8 hours a day, but then i knew that was going to be my life. good luck!
