Just imagine that every time you put your fingers in your mouth to chew on them .. is like LICKING whatever you have touched .. door handles, money, table tops, etc. That should gross you out enough to stop?

Hello LoLa,
There are so many ways to get rid of your nail-biting habit. For example you can start with one finger (of both hands). However, usually it is good to go out and search for your personal solution ... what helped for me (my pinky first), may not be a good solution for you.
Please take a look at this nail-biting encyclopdia and make your preference to overwin your habit:
http://www.handresearch.com/finger-nails/fingernail-biting.htm
(it will provide you a guide to become more aware of the psychology behind nail biting)
Good luck!

Apply a layer of clear polish for the first couple of weeks to discourage you. Then, do not use any polish for several months so you dont fall back into picking and pulling at the polish and playing with your fingers. Keep a fingernail file and clippers with you at all times until you can break the habit of biting. As soon as your nails begin to grow, keep them clipped short so they can gain strength over the next several months. Try to maintain clean, short nails for about a year. Dont try to grow them long. Theyll gain strength over time so you can grow them long and strong. :)

The only way I was able to quit biting my nails was to get acrylic nails. You don't have to wear them long or paint them. You can get natural looking short nails if you want. If you want them to look natural don't let anyone talk you into French nails or square cut nails.

They have this nail polish called NO BITE at local drugstores for about 4 dollars. It tastes really bad. It helped me...but then I just got sick of it and never painted my nails with it.

Here's what my friend did ~ she only stopped biting one particular nail at a time, but continued chomping on the rest. After a time, there was only one mangled-looking pinkie to deal with. That's what I call progress.

Cut off your hand!
No, seriously, you should do some research on the amount of bacteria that accumulates under the nails and the living organisms that habitate there. Find out as much as you can on this subject and I guarantee everytime you feel inclined to stick your finger in your mouth you'll think first.

Go get fake fingernails. I would suggest the Solar nails. I got them for my 11 year old that COULD NOT Quit. And it made her stop. Just a suggestion.

oh god!! flashbacks!! let me tell you how my parents helped me get rid of this bad habit when i was a kid...
so I'm Latin and my dad still loves his spicy food. so the dinner table is never short of jalapenos. the kind that are canned...with all that juice...
so he would take some juice and pour it in a small bowl. he would then have me rest my fingers in the juice, sort of the way you dip you fingers during a manicure.
well....i would defiantly not bite them from that point. from time to time i would slip and get that taste...EWWW...but he programmed me to not bite my nails.
