That depends on how nice the hall is, how busy they are, what is on the menu, and if it is table service or buffet.
It never hurts to shop around.

Depending on the hall location and the type of food the normal price at a place considered to be a 3 star on a 5 star level is 25.00 and up. Again it really depends on the food. If its chicken it shouldn't be that much if you are looking at steak or seafood then that is a great price.

I cannot believe the prices...$50.00 and up sounds perposterous to me. I live in South Carolina and I thought $25.00 a person was too much. Anyway, I'm getting married 06-02-07 and the hall is free and I'm paying $9.75 a person. The price depends on where you live and what you plan on serving.

Honestly that is far too expensive, that money could go to something else like your favors. I thought $40 was too much. We were married on a Friday so we got a discount and ended up paying $25 at a very upscale hotel which allowed up to bring in our own cake, decorate anyway that we wanted, and provided hurricane lamps with marbles and candles in them. You really need to look into what perks come with paying $45 per plate.

I don't know where you are located, but in Wisconsin, We rented the hall for $800. A plate cost $14 (sit down) per person, table linens for the tables were 60 cents per guest, linen napkins were 80 cents per guest, table skirt for the head table was $2 per person at table, and cake cutting cost us 95 cents per guest.

Here in Minnesota, my husband and I got married at a really nice recption hall, and the most expensive plate (steak) was 15.95 a plate, no minimum number of guests.

Averages will totally vary according to your location. I think that's a pretty reasonable per-person cost.

It is realistic, but you can get it cheaper. I am getting mine for $9.75 because I can get my hall for free. Seriously look around, you can do it for cheaper, but $50+ a plate is fairly normal.

I don't think you can get cheaper than that. That sounds good if you're satisfied wiith the place.
