I have witnessed and been in so many near misses with motorists who just pullin or out of roads without using there indicators.
I say to these people "when I get the chance" It is ok i suppose you know where you are going but the lights are to let other road users know.
You would fail your driving test "no questions asked if you did not use indicators, so why does the LAW allow no use of them in everyday road use?

It is not to long ago that most people drove without wearing seatbelts, The LAW was able to change this easy enough.

Interesting question - especially when you consider that most motorists accuse the police of targeting innocent motorists and fining them for offences!

Quite simply, there are not enough police officers to deal with EVERY driver who does not use an indicator or wear a seat belt!

And, often they are dealing with more serious issues such as murder, rape, burglary, theft, robbery etc. and would no doubt be told by the irate motorist to go catch a REAL criminal and stop bugging them!

And, as a point of interest, my friends son passed his driving test the other day with one MINOR FAULT: He used his indicators when the examiner deemed it UNNECESSARY due to the fact that there were no other vehicles around!

You only need to indicate when there is someone to indicate to,and this includes pedestrians. Even worse than those who do not indicate are those who indicate to exit a roundabout too early,ie before passing the previous exit, this causes many an accident. My advice to you is not to rely on just an indicator to anticipate a manouvre, look at road position, speed, road ahead etc. In a serious instance failure to indicate, if proven can lead to a careless or dangerous driving charge.

It really can be annoying when people fail to use their turn signals, in most cases, if I don't see any bigger moving violations, I'll stop them, cite them, then ironically enough, they come to this forum and post something along the lines of "WHY DO POLICE TICKET YOU FOR LITTLE THINGS LIKE NOT USING YOUR SIGNAL?"

its simple by the way i agree with you. sometimes you don't no where you are going. people think they are being smart on the approach 2 a left hand turn when you are sitting with your indicator on 2 go right 2 put it on at the last minute pricks. round abouts really get me thow o if i had the time 2 type what i really thought aaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrr

It is a matter of priorities. Is the best use of an officer's time to pull over every person they see that doesn't use their turn signal or is it a better use to get DUI and real reckless drivers off of the road? Think about it.

In the UK it is not not an offence to fail to signal unless there are other motors in the vasinity of your manouver,Thought i'd failed my test on this point ,until the instructor told me different..

Don't blame the police, blame the car manufacturers, they haven't invented indicator lights yet - have they?

If they did that it would mean they would have to start indicating as well. I have seen so much police using junctions and roundabouts without indicating its unbelievable.
