There was no difference in driving performance prior to problem. Someone stopped me and informed me my brakes were on fire and smoke started to pour out. I had new brake pads put on about 3 months ago, however I had noticed just recently that the brake dust on my rims looked pink instead of black.

You probably left the emergency brake on just a bit.

Had the same problem with my 98 Mustang Cobra. Had the brakes done and they twisted the caliper so that the brake line rubbed the tire. Once the brake line was severed and the brake fulid hit the hot rotor it caught fire. If your brake fluid is red this would cause the pink discoloration.

Did you check the level of your brake fluid?

If master cylinder was empty or almost empty-then a brake line leaked. Somehow got damaged.

Surely only one side was smoking/burning?

If pads were installed wrong they prob stuck and ground against rotors creating damage.

Mechanic can check for you.

If installed wrong, I would take back to Place that did the work.
3 months after work was done-they can say it was not their fault.

the calipers were sticking (they need replacement) and causing the pads to press against the discs thereby generating alot of heat. If a brake shop did this they owe you a repair job including new calipers.

This sounds like my answer's a sprint infantile, even though it sounds like a brilliant question to ask a television instruct like "Mythbusters"! They already proved that capturing the gas tank of a automobile would not set it on hearth, the way that movies constantly make you think of. If an exploded gas tank won't capture on hearth, it form of feels not likely that the entire automobile would capture on hearth if purely the brakes made sparks. i'm not an motor vehicle expert, although.

A sticking caliper or a collapsed brake line could have caused this.

I have no idea but Jack Ingram has a rockin' song called "Mustang Burn".

You might want to check w/ the people who replaced your brake pads to see if they know of anything.

sounds like the calipers have stuck, causing the brakes to remain on.

Hubby said that they installed the brakes wrong.. You should take your car back to where you had it done and have the fix it right..
