Of the brands you mention, I prefer Nikon, but I am not comparing individual cameras. Check this site.

For a beginner: look for any point&shot class camera Canon or Nikon. For a limited budged look at HP (new or used - I had for 3 years an HP 935 = 5 Mpx, 3x optical zoom look on ebay for it)

If you look forward to learn about photography as a serious hobby you need a super zoom class camera such as Lumix FZ-30 (FZ-50), Sony, Olympus on which you can add optical filters, like a circular polarizer filter.

If you aim higher ...you want a DSLR basic kit - Canon or Nikon.

i am also looking for one,but since it``s to expensive i´´ll recommend the 1960 version of a digital camera which uses a build in flesh and a 24 or 36 exposure film.

my first was a polaroid pdc 640, I loved it, its idiot proof and takes decent pics, its an older camera so it can be bought for around 50 bucks if you can't find it anywhere else they have them on ebay.
