Some dogs can go into heat at 6 months (particularly small dogs), but most have their first heat between 8-12 months. It is best to get them spayed at or before 6 months, before their first heat to get the most health benefits - no chance of mammary cancer then.

If you have your female dog spayed before she goes into heat, she never go into heat. This is because in the process of spaying a female, her ovaries are removed, thus the hormones that are produced that would have caused her to go into heat will never be produced. It is possible to have her spayed while she is in heat, but it is generally more expensive. If you do not want her to have puppies then it is best to get her fixed when she is around 6 months old. All the female dogs I have had over the past 10 years or so went into heat the first time betweent the ages of 7 and 9 months old and if she doesn't get pregnant during the first time in heat, she will go into heat sooner the next time.

I spay my females at about 5 months. I have not had one go into heat before that.
I want to be sure to keep their risk of cancer down as low as possible nd every heat cycle they go through raises the cancer risk a lot. So I have them done at 5 months.
Normally heat can start as early as 5 months and some dogs are more than one year old before their first heat.

When a female dog is spayed all the reproductive organs are removed, so she can never come into season or bear puppies.

NB. In the unmodified version I used the correct word for the somewhat inaccurate term 'female dog' and got the word asterisked out. Who on earth decided on this mealy-mouthed policy ? The word is not an expletive but an accurate term used in every dog reference book ever published. Such delicate sensitivities should shun all contact with the real world !!

Your dog should never go into heat after she has been spayed. It is best to do it before she goes into heat because with each cycle they go through their chance of getting cancer increases. My vet said that they will do them as early as 3 months. If they never go into heat then their chance of cancer is 0. So if you haven't spayed your puppy yet, I highly recommend that you do it as soon as possible. We just went through the whole puppy, spayed experience so I know.

no it won't!! not if she's spayed before her first heat cycle. I have a 2 yr. old female cat and she was spayed right at 6 months before her heat. from what I know female cats and dogs are the same on that part. HIH!!

I don't know- we spayed my dog as soon as we got her (I don't know how old she was) and shes never gone into heat. I know this isnt that helpful but the point is that she probably won't go into heat if you get her spayed now.

If you spay her before her first cycle, then no. she will never go into heat. No matter when you spay her, though, once the surgery is performed, she will no longer go into heat.
