I completely understand why you can no longer live under the same roof! Been there and done that. I would not take out a personal loan, it'll eat you alive in interest payments. Not to mention the added stress. Try instead looking for a roommate to share rent with on an apt or house. Put up ads on the grocery store bullitin boards and any where you can think of on campus. With that in place you might still need to pull in a few hours working as well. But I would definetly seek out others who want to do the same thing and share expenses.

You can get a loan for your room + board, plus tuition and books, and the loan should cover all of it, if you attend an in-state school that is not a private school. You can opt for the work/study program on your loan application - if you think you can handle working while excelling in your classes, which will give you more money for your expenses. Whether you stay home and finish college, or move out an finish college, remember two things: Your mother is your only mother and finishing college should be a priority. Good luck!

Go to the college and ask about student housing and employment assistance. Search the web for any scholarship you can qualify for. Look into student loans.
Do a budget.

Plan to move between semesters. Go to your parents when you have all the information regarding where you will live and how you plan to support yourself and let them know that you will be leaving on whatever date. Take them out to dinner, or fix a nice meal for them and tell them you appreciate everything they have done. Foster the good will of your parents. They will remain your most staunch support. Show your parents the person you are to become who can be responsible, independent, and safe. Mom may need some reassurance that you know how to keep her son safe. Behave like you understand your responsibilites, respect your family and still intend take initiative with your own life.

You have the gift of time to transition and to say good bye. Odds are you will never live at home again.

If your grades can handle the strain, get a job. Loans are a bummer to have to pay off. Even if it takes you a little longer to get the degree.
Now, a suggestion for which you don't have to pay. :) Remeber as time goes on that, unfortunate as it probably is, much of what you learned about being an adult came from your parents. (That comes out of my experience.)
