I see many people I know complaining about not having a boyfriend/girlfriend, how much they want it, but it doesn't happen, what is going on?

We all start out idealistic, thinking we'll find the perfect mate. If you've been in a couple of relationships that you counted on to work and they didn't, you get a little gun shy. So even though we still have those dreams of true love, we also know the level of pain it can cause if we're wrong. People are more picky because they want a relationship that will count forever. We don't want to waste time on one that will cause us pain. That creates a situation where we all want the best but stay single because we can't find it.

Yes, I agree, we are too picky these days, in principle...we want and expect way too much out of people, and as uptight as folks are about sex these days, that doesn't help....O_O

But. I think there is one big thing on the male side that makes some guys just hang their heads and give up. That money thing. The whole notion that you have to pay for the dates, buy gifts, and generally keep a full wallet on you at all times...and yeah, I know it isn't like that all the time *for everyone*, ok, but honestly, ladies, when was the last time you even *remotely* considered dating someone *knowing in advance* you'd either have to "go dutch" (both pay for the date) or pay yourself for it?

Honestly. I'm NOT accusing anyone of being a gold-digger, ok?

All I am saying is, sometimes the expectation of "let the guy pay for it all" gets way WAY the hell out of hand, and every time it does and other guys *see it*, some of them give up, thinking, "Damn, there is just no *way* I can keep up with that."

And I am not talking just in a competitive sense either, but in the sense of, "How am I going to be a gentleman for her, and be worthy of her attention, if I can't even pay out half as much as her best-friend's current boyfriend...?"

I'm not trying to offend, I am just saying, sometimes, the message gets sent out that half the men out there who might *want* to date should just "give up" because they are too poor to date (in the manner some women expect).

And, being reasoning critters of a sort, who are we to NOT get the message? :p *lol*

the real answers:
1. USA is now 55% female 45% male
2. More women entered workplace earning 50K...so she need to date men who earn 150K...and how many guys earn that?
3. USA taught women to become "independent"....not depending on a man. BY definition its "formed to fend for itself."
4. girls begin early stage of intense hormonal activation one earlier these days compared to 40 or 50 yrs ago.....all due to increase population. She get horny at 12 or 13 instead of 13 or 14 like moms or gandmas did when they were younger.
5. EVERY girl knows she chooses her guy. From 15 thru 25, its all she does, but relationships with boyfriends arent serious because he was never ready for mature adult relationship or fatherhood meanwhile ALL girls 15thru 18 in every country on earth IS READY.
good luck

I think people have become so independent and since they can get sex for free, they have stopped needing each other. I find myself getting turned down by guys that are short, bald, have children, etc, so they are no prizes either, but no one wants to commit to anyone anymore, except me I guess

I THINK THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE DON'T KNOW WHO THEY ARE YET AND THAT'S WHY THEY ARE STILL SINGLE. WHEN YOU DON'T KNOW WHO YOU ARE, THEN I THINK IT'S PRETTY HARD TO FIGURE OUT WHAT AND WHO YOU WANT.
