You do not want just a head voice, nor do you want just a chest voice - your whole body is your musical instrument. Find a good coach who knows exercises for making this happen.

In the meantime, you can practice this. Stand straight with your feet about shoulder-width apart. When I say "straight," do not think about your back - instead, imagine that you are suspended from the ceiling by a string tied to your CHEST.

Stand straight, relaxed, and comfortable.

The exercise to do is on the solfege tones:
sol-mi-sol-mi-do in an unstrict 3/4 time
SOL-mi SOL-mi DO
Get the air started first:
sssssssssssol-mi-sol-mi-do

Imagine the sound coming from your feet up to your head where it spirals around.

After each
sssssssssssol-mi-sol-mi-do
repeat a half-step higher.

Never force - just let it happen.

Opening the throat is a healthy way to make sound, but it is your tongue that is controlling the brightness of your sound. Raise the back part of your tongue toward the soft palette and your voice will brighten (like a Broadway or Jazz singer compared to a operatic singer).

Practice singing like an annoying child, to see the effect of raising the tongue on your voice. And, always, smile. Raising the cheekbones and eyebrows focuses the sound better, gives more forward resonance, and makes you look nicer when you sing.

what kind of singer are you??

singers are classified for males such as tenor, etc.

the higher the level the bigger the opening of the mouth is.
