Everyday I worry about things A LOT! I can not go to sleep unless my room is clean. I can't watch tv or go to sleep unless I know where all of my things are. If I am missing something I HAVE to get up and look for it. Do you think that I have OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder)? How can I get help without going to a doctor? If I don't have it what do you think I have?

I just thought that I would add that I actually like to order things. I kind of think that it is fun.

You probably have the beginnings of it. It can worsen over time. You'll know for sure you have it when you start having to do certain things a certain number of times to make "sure" they were done. (liking checking that the stove is off before you leave your house, etc.)

My mom's got it. It was hell growing up with her. Everything had to be "just" right. If I left a t-shirt on the floor in my room I got reamed for it because she would completely freak out. She eventually had 2 nervous breakdowns and we only talk via email now because it is easier on me.

Seek a therapist, get some medication, and force yourself to let some of these issues go once in a while. Leave your room dirty once in a while, do it on purpose.

A doctor or a therapist would be able to clearly identify if you indeed of OCD. There are different levels for OCD also and they'd be able to let you know.

It doesn't sound like you've got it, or even a severe case if you do. Normally, people with cleaning versions of OCD would clean and wash until their hands bleed and never ever stop doing so. You can be OCD about different things too.

Worrying about things is not an OCD problem -- some people just naturally worry and this increases your stress level, which in turn, can make you worry more. When I'm nervous or worried, I clean. It's something I do to put order in my life, not because of my OCD.

I did have OCD and I was put on medicine and through talk therapy I am much better. However, ignoring it is something you should not do. So no matter what, get checked out.

I don't know whether you have OCD or not but, I found a website that has an OCD test in it to check and see if you have it or not. If you DO think you have it, seek help from a doctor as soon as possible. This is NOT something you want to deal with on your own. Take care and good luck to you!

Sorry but the only one who can diagnose OCD is a professional who has been trained to recognize - and perhaps to treat - this disorder. OCD doesn't necessarily mean pills. Go to your family doctor for a start, and have a heart-to-heart. Then take it from there.

Good luck

My shrink diagnosed me with OCD (along with a whole string of other issues) because I couldn't stop doing my homework. I'd write one draft, then re-write it again and again, making grammatical and spelling and vocabulary amendments all the time. It's quite funny in retrospect, but not when you're still awake at 4am working on an assignment worth 5% of your final grade.
On the plus side, I did top the class of 2005 in that one subject.

Thats what you have ma dear. Welcome to the OCD Bipolar family. Im the same way.

You can take a med and those things youre worrying about.....well, you wont worry as much. Thats part of who you are. Its ok, you just need something to calm that feeling down.

I used to stand out in the yard with the hose watering till midnight.....worrying that Id get a yellow spot. My husband would call out to me...to come in... and Id say...Just a minute, Im coming. I still wouldnt come in, I obsessed with the yard, and also mowing it, it has to be perfect and done a certain way.

I DO know the feeling.

From the looks of it, yes. But I mean, if you actually like to clean and be organized and you aren't annoyed with it, then is it really a "disorder"? Some people are just more tidy and more ambitious than others and like it that way. But if you are annoyed with your ways and if you want to change it, then yeah, go see a doctor and he'll probably put you on medications.

Hun, that does sound an awful lot like OCD...Talk to a trusted adult about your feelings. If you have OCD, it does not mean you :have" to take medicine...there are lots of ways to help and only a doctor can advise you.

how often - you say everyday but how long has this been going on? You probably should seek help if it has been a long time. OCD is very common, especially people who need to wash hands, lock the doors, etc... It can't hurt just to be evaluated.

Start with the school nurse. Ask her if the school counselor can help you with this type situation. You don't have to go to a "doctor" but a therapist can assist you with this.
