If someone offered free braiding, would you take it? I'm asking because I'm a braider and I live in Tucson, AZ. I decided to offer free braiding to a selection of single mothers or their children. I also offered free braiding for a few people from the general public. I've only gotten one response. I hope I'm not scaring people away with the word 'free'. I can braid, I just want some recent pictures for my portfolio and to help some people out. Would you get you hair done for free?

I put everything in my ad. Including information about what the braiding was for, exactly why I wanted to do it, and that I had previous experience braiding in a shop. I definitely should have used words like 'complimentary' and 'hair model'. Thanks guys.

People are probably thinking that you are new to braiding or there is some kind of catch or scam to your advertisement. Unfortunately people are scepticle because in this life, nothing is ever for free. Do you mention in your ad that you need pics for your portfolio? I am sure that would help. I would also mention that you are a female. Good luck to you, you are doing a nice thing. People just aren't use to someone just being nice for the sake of kindness.

See if a few places will let you place boxes and slips for people to register to win a free braided hair do. Then check the boxes and tell the "winners" that all they have to do is let their pictures be taken for examples. A good place to put them would be nail salons. You might visit churches and ask them is they would have anyone in need who would like a free hair braiding.

Dang Right I would ! People these days don't really trust in an ad that says FREE though.
Try going to an outdoor area like a park on a nice day and see if you can snag some people there. Explain that you need it for your portfolio and maybe people willbe more receptive to the offer if you make it in person.
Good Luck !

I am a hairstylist myself.

I really would be lary of someone offering free services. Even though your intentions are good, people probably are thinking that there is some sort of catch or just are so bad that you have to give away your services.

Did you mention in your ads that this is for single mothers and childeren? That may insure people that you are just wanting to help out others.

Good Luck,
Stylist of 9 yrs.

First off what you would need to say is that you are a hair dresser and that you are currently putting a portfolio together and ask if they would like to be in it. explain to them your plan don't just say hey can I do your hair for free. It makes you sound kind of desperate and unprofessional make some flyers something simple which can be done on your computer at home and pass them out. Also if you have some pictures of your work then show that as well.

I sure would take free styling. I wish I lived in Arizona.

You might just need to go to a church, or other place were alot of people gather and explain fully. Try a flyer, stating you want to expand your porfolio, you are a experienced stylist, and are looking for women and children to style Free of charge. I'm sure you'll get tons of calls then. They probably now just think its some student who wants to practice on their hair, and nobody wants to sign up for that.
