No one should be afraid of Jesus, he was a gentle teacher, a just and compassionate man. There is nothing to fear. If people chose to make his Father an unforgiving monster, that's up to them, too.! Nothing like the threat of punishment to convince people to follow the rule book and if they don't they'll be thrown into a raging furnace for eternity.
Personally, I prefer to make choices that benefit my family, others and my conscience because I believe them to be be good choices, not because of mythical threats. There is no benefit in being decent because you fear punishment. I am acquainted with Jesus, and have heard a great deal about his Dad..and I'm not afraid of him .

I think people are more afraid of the Religious leaders preaching the wrath of God. There are so many rules to abide by if we are to have eternal life that for the people of this world, and its a difficult world to live in too, then preaching the Wrath of God turns people away. Maybe if we were taught how loving and forgiving God is, but more so, how He understands the everyday stresses we are going through, then maybe people would understand the REAL message. The message a lot of times is based on the beliefs of the religious leader.Maybe a lot of us are afraid to go to church for fear we will be judged....not by God, but by the Congregation based on what a particular religious leader believes.

I believe there are a lot of people afraid....not of Jesus, but of the Religious Leaders and their expectations of their congregation.

If people are afraid of Jesus because they dont know what He can do with them, I have some bad news, These people really dont know Jesus. People like that are either unbelievers,or they dont want to totally turn themselves over to the Lord Jesus Christ and let Him work in their life.

People are afraid of the negative images of Jesus that people constructed 2 thousand years ago (and still construct today).

I'm not afraid of Jesus because there's very little proof that he ever existed.

However, having paid attention in history class, I know what his friends are capable of doing to me -- and THAT scares the crap outta me.

People aren't afraid of Jesus
People are afraid of facing their own crap - they are afraid they will have to give up their crap and they are afraid if they give up their crap, they will never see it again.

it's the "camel through the eye of the needle" syndrome
