Would there be a miltary value in something like a boat version of a fighter plane? There are Cargo planes/ships, troop transport planes/ships, bombers/missle cruisers, sigint planes/ships, etc, but no sea-going version of a fighter - a small, fast, heavily armed boat (1 or 2 man crew) capable of attacking an enemy ship, is there?

That assignment has been taken over by helicopters on the high seas. The navy does have some river boats, that also work in harbors and along the coast. They also have fast armed dingys for boarding other boats. Small boats don't do well on the high seas, especially when the waves get 10, 20 or even beyond thirty feet high. Now that ships can attack mother ships from 1,000 miles away, it would just take to long for a very small boat to get in position.
