It seems to be pretty common. I have friends and family members who have told me they believe "Just in case" the whole hell thing is real.
Very cruel. Sounds nothing like a merciful loving God to me.
A perfect being, which is Love, would do no such thing. It's completely contradictory in nature.
Of course it's twisted, it's ancient ideas about something that's supposed to be beyond even our own understanding. I find it hard to believe that people use such primitive ideas and place all of their faith in it just because they are told it's "divine". In that, they have placed their trust first in man.

Some people do believe out of fear. In those cases, I can only hope that they come to understand and know God's great love for them. This happens when you enter into personal relationship with Him, which is what faith is really all about.
God is perfect and holy and just. He cannot tolerate any sin. If you were able to be totally perfect -- inside and out, since God also sees your thoughtlife -- and never commit a sin or even think about certain ones (thinking about it is the same as committing the sin for some of the sins) then you could enter into fellowship with God. Since none of us humans can do that, we need serious help. That's why Jesus died on the cross: to take the punishment that we justly deserved under God's law. To accept Him, you need to first confess your sins to God (agree with Him that they really are sins) and repent of them -- that just means to turn away from those sins. Accept Jesus' work on the cross, and move forward in your relationship with God. If you want more details, please write. (Send me an email by clicking on my 'name' just under the grey smiley box.)
God doesn't hate humans. He can't. He does not punish those who do not accept salvation because He hates them. Their sins cause them to deserve that punishment. Even one sin is enough because you've broken God's holy law. Some people will get what their sins deserve (justice) and others will get mercy (by accepting the salvation that's been offered.) No one will get injustice. The world is full of harsh realities; this is but one of them. The Good News is that it doesn't have to be harsh because jesus has already taken the punishment for your sins.

I think you should decide if you want to believe God based on getting to know Him, by reading the Old and New Testaments of the Bible and the Koran. - If there is a God, He is the God of all. Not by listening to any peoples' oppinions, including and especially priests of all the religions which do the opposite of what The Books they claim to follow teach.
If you like what you read and experience, then follow that, if you don't then don't. You should never follow anyone solely because they threaten to punish you if you don't.

The basis of all religions is to promote the good in us and condemn the bad. We don't need to be threatened with eternal damnation to know that we are doing bad, we also do not need a special message from any God to tell us that we are doing good. Having any belief that makes us a better person and more accepting of others should only be praised and not condemned.

whynotaskdon is sick!! is he truly a christian.. i bet Jesus will never saved people full of hatred like him!!
anyway, answer to ur question...
yeah, we can call it as Fear of God anger and God hell. But u have to understand that all religion is for human good. Religion is not just faith, but its also a law of life which human has to follow to live better. The only reason God create human is to obey him and to worship him. If u read carefully the Gospel, Jesus never teach that all faith is needed, we have to bound to works and law too. Thus our life will be more meaningful.
God will only torture people who disobey him and do not believe in him as they dont have respect or thankful to the creator. Its the test of our short life!!
its a simple concept, someone has give u life and u dont appreciate it, thus that person wont appreciate u too.
oh, God d o not hate human.. only Christians religion teach that God full of hatred and make human suffered thus he has to kill his son. i dont know why they wanted to believe that God is that cruel!!
In Islam, God is full of love, no one is a sinner unless they sin themselves, but still if the sinner repents on what they did, they will defiitely be forgiven.

I think it's true that some believe out of fear. Some do so because they are told to and are too gullible to question it and some believe because they simply want to "belong" somewhere, which I think is a very shallow reason. There are very few who genuinely believe in the religions they follow.
That's why I don't have one.

it is sadistic,
A human sacrifice was needed so we can be "saved"
God was very cruel in the Bible, how about that story where the rich guy who loved God so much was tested, by freak stuff killing his kids and losing his livestock
To burn people for not believing in you, especially since God never lets himself seen so his existance is questionable, is actually a trait an evil god would have

No, the belief you refer to about God's reason for creating Hell is nothing like what you describe, you have twisted the belief.
Don't know where you heard that info, but it wasn't from a believer in God.
Maybe from an agent of Satan, lol.
God is good in everything He does, including the creation of Hell.
People who choose to live sinful lives choose to go to Hell because each of us has a Free Will to choose our own fate with, even those who don't believe in the concept.

That's exactly what makes Christianty sick in some ways. Little children are told by their mothers that God will burn them in Hell if they don't follow him. Like the Boogeyman.
