Which would mean that God must be something and something must have been around before God... but if he's nothing, then how did he create the universe which is something?

Please try and reason your way out of this one.

God is something he is older than dirt. You ask questions the bible says we should ask not why. I believe this means when what and where also. God created women out of Adams rib. He was here to create us so he is definitely something wonderful. In the beginning God Created Heavens and the earth. There was nothing only God he was lonely so he created. He is the creator. Open your bible to genesis to see what all he created. Have faith. If u try too hard it will drive u insane.

God is a tremendous source of energy. Sir Isaac Newton found that energy creates matter. So a tremendous explosion of energy would create the universe. What appears to be moving and spreading out is actually moving in a circle around the heavens. That the heavens is an actually place read Job 1: where the angels or spirit sons came back and forth between earth and this heavenly abode.

We are something, we are not nothing, if we can't come from nothing then we must be nothing?

The idea of god relates to shrodingers cat actually. The perspective changes with each outlook but in the end, the search for all possible answers leads to enlightenment or an awakening. Or just a profound look of amazement.
Even to the non-spiritual, it holds true, knowledge is power. The more you know, the more your able to do

Here is your answer.......now try to remember there is only ONE and only ONE true and absolute in this world that is God. Now there is NO WAY our minds can concieve something beyond what we are, so thats where faith comes in. We all have faith to a certain degree in everday life but othrs have found a faith in God, thus we have our foundation. God was the first and the last. He created the heavens and the earth, all of it. No one was before him nor something, our minds can NOT concieve of this, thus we have faith that it is. Do me a favor if you dont believe in God, damn Him everyday, tell him YOU got to where u are in this world and NOT by Gods graces.....I can almost guarantee most people would opt not to do this for they know deep down there is a God, but try it see what happens........good luck and God bless

No trying you are putting forth circular thinking which says this has to be because of this and since that is true this must also be true - faulty analogy

God is God and is not reduced by your making him nothing,

Oh and by the way, God is the first cause of all things - try that on for your reasoning abilities which you can not!

God is something. When you look at all that is created int he universe it had to start somewhere.
God is eternal and infinite creation. Therefore YES he has been around since before time as we understand it began.
God is a life, energy force. He always has exsisted and always will exsist. There is no way to extinguish a life energy or creation itself.

Our humble minds simply cannot answer this question

Qura'an > Al-An'aam Chapter > Verse 73:

It is He Who created the heavens and the earth in true (proportions); the day He saith, "Be," behold! it is. His Word is the Truth. His Will be the dominion the day the trumpet will be blown. He knoweth the Unseen as well as that which is open. For He is the Wise, well-acquainted (with all things).
