I have looked at this alot in the last while and if you are looking spend a little more if your vhs is getting old and get yourself a combo unit if not I would agree withthe other answer here and check out Walmart circuit city or one of the other big chains usually have pretty good deals to so just shop around and if you do any dvdburning look for one that is divx compatible this helps with decoding some components of the burn and again most
dvds are the same but I would stay away from the diamond dvd players sold at walmart phillips is a cheap well made dvd player and panasonic has dropped there prices on many of their models
also look at models that companies may be discontinuing you may get a bargain on a very nive dvd player ask ask ask have fun browsing. If you have a newer tv that has hdmi input look for a dvd player that has this ption you will get far better picture and sound than s-video and you can hook your laptop right into your tv hint hint.

Here is a suggestion. You can get a portable dvd player with video out which you can use at home, and also take it with you when you are on the go. I see them advertised for less than 100 dollars.

Stick with the name brands, and find the most features that you want -and voila!

Take a look at some of the popular video review magazines for some impressions to give you a little bit more information.

I say, go down to your local CE store and compare for yourself side-by-side, and you will find the best one for you.

Most are less than $100 these days. Sony is very reliable at less than $60.

All DVD mechanical components are essentially the same. Get the cheapest one possible with the features you like.
