Ok im downloading ubuntu and i wanted to make sure that i am doing it right im downloading the program from here down in the middle of the dir. http://ubuntu-releases.cs.umn.edu//6.06/ its the ubuntu-6.06.1-desktop-i386.iso now do I take this file and burn the iso to cd or what im lost at this point i have CDburnerxp pro 3 to do so . I wanna burn it from this computer and place it on a different one and remove the os thats on the other computer thanks for all the help

If it's an ISO, then yes you burn the ISO to a CD. Your burner should have a disc image capability. What you expect to get is a bootable CD, and you need to make sure that it's formatting the CD in the right way, and not purely writing it out as a data CD.

Once you've burned it, you have a bootable Install CD. Rebooting the comp from that CD should boot right into the installation. Make sure you've researched things enough so that you don't wipe your current OS if that's something you care about.

When you burn an iso file, you don't just copy it. You need to use the option that says "burn from disk image" or "copy image to CD" or something similar. If your program doesn't support iso burning, Microsoft recommends this free power toy:

Once you've made your install CD, it can be used on as many computers as you want. It also gives step-by-step instructions on how to reformat a hard drive so Ubuntu is the only OS. Hope this helps.
